((Elysium Mezzanine, Deck 5 - USS Artemis))
Kel: It's a shame shore leave is coming to an end, sir. I feel like I was finally starting to relax.
Salkath: I could not concur more. I have been reminded more than once by my family that I have not made time for them since Frontier Day. No amount of convincing of my responsibilities on the ship since then has been adequate. Have you found that to be the same?
Solas frowned. His mother, being Vulcan, was incredibly logical and had accepted his excuse of being busy with work. His father, being a scientist, was so busy he probably didn’t have time to examine the issue too much.
Kel: Not really. I just tell them I’m busy. Which isn’t a lie, I’ve been picking up extra shifts.
The server delivered the commander some fresh tea.
Salkath: We consciously chose a career in Starfleet, knowing beforehand both the inherent risks and the demands it would place. I have no regrets, even if my family does.
He left the statement hanging, not exactly asking Solas whether he felt the same. He mulled over his next move and took it. The board reformed itself. The shape wasn’t perfect but it was quite smooth.
Kel: My mother still thinks I should’ve gone into science, sir. It must be a cliche with our people. One has to wonder how the roads get built. Your move sir.
Salkath placed his t'an gingerly, and the board rearranged itself perfectly. Solas’s jaw dropped.
Salkath: Kal-toh. The fates looked favorably on me this round. It would appear a tie-breaker is indeed required.
It was a quick round, and Solas suspected it was only so fast because they had both only been halfheartedly been making moves. It would be illogical to blame luck.
Kel: Kal-toh indeed. Well now, one win for me, one win for you. I believe that makes us tied, sir. Shall we play the tie breaker now?
Salkath: Response.
Nodding courteously, Solas began to reset the board. When they had finished, their t’an rods sat at either side of them. Glinting and ready for use. Solas gestured towards the commander.
Kel: Well sir, winner goes first.
Salkath: Response
Solas watched as the commander made his first move. The board took shape, lopsided and uneven. Both he and the commander flinched, a terrible miscalculation and a truly awful opening move. Fate had smiled on him, logically.
Kel: Not to worry sir, they can’t all be winning moves. Otherwise the game would be over too quickly.
Solas looked over the board carefully, he found a position near the middle that made a good spot. He carefully placed his piece, and the board reformed. The game was nowhere near finished, but the board was mercifully easier to look at now.
Salkath: Response
Solas stroked his chin in mock thought as the commander planned his move.
Solas: Sir, if you don’t mind me asking. What made you decide to play in Elysium? It’s not the ideal Kal-Toh location.
Salkath: Response
((OOC: Sorry it took me so long to reply. I kept waiting for a tag but I haven’t gotten one yet so imma keep backsimming so long as I can!)
