(( Holodeck 3, Deck 222, DS 224 ))

Alex entered the holodeck and saw that most of the others had already gathered.  Bergman seemed to be explaining what their situation and objectives were.  She was to lead Team 2.  Before she knew it, Bergman had said …

Bergmen: Computer, start the simulation.

Alex watched as a Damage Control room appeared out of nothing.  Well, not out of nothing.  Photons and force fields were something.  She crossed her arms and looked around at the board, watching and patiently waiting.  Only a few moments into the sim, the display lit up.  First, the engine room, then the warp core.  Off to the side of the warp core, the words, “Intermix coolant leak” showed in red.  But as soon as she saw it, power went out for a two-count before the emergency lights kicked on.  The core shut down was complete, but now, instead, the noise of a siren rent the silence.

Bergmen: Radiation alert! Suit up!

When the emergency powers kicked on, the Display lit up red, and a radiation symbol hovered over main engineering.  It was time to move.  Alex headed for the locker with the name “Storm” on it and donned the suit she would be wearing.  Seconds later, she was ready

Imril/Cole: Response

As Alex turned toward the others, Bergman stopped in front of her.

Bergmen: Lieutenant, take the corridor right from the DC room exit, and start evacuation to the upper decks. My team takes the corridor to the left. Try to get to the Main Engineering; we need to patch the breach or manually eject the warpcore. Ok?

Storm: Roger that.

Storm double-tapped the helmet, bringing up the HUD so that she could keep track of the situation as they moved.

Storm:  Okay, let’s move.

Meris:  Aye, Lieutenant. We’re right behind you.

Tho'Bi: ::strong and clear:: Aye, aye, Lieutenant. Good to go.

Bancroft: Response.

Together, the team exited the Damage Control Room.  Alex’s HUD let her know if the rooms that they passed were occupied or not.  Most people were trying to make a hasty retreat or to find their way to radiation suits.

Thobi pulled out his tricorder.

Meris: Are you detecting any life signs in this section?

Tho'Bi: =/\= Neutrinos levels are increasing exponentially ::beat:: we got… maybe ten minutes. =/\==/\=

But as they pressed on, one crewman was dragging another burned and bleeding from the area.

Storm:  =/\=I know we all want to help that, but that’s not our objective.  Let’s keep our eyes forward.  We get to work when we get to engineering.=/\=

Tho'Bi: ::to Lieutenant Storm:: =/\= Neutrinos levels are increasing exponentially ::beat:: we got… maybe ten minutes. =/\=

Storm:  ::To Tho’Bi:: =/\=Understood.  You be our timekeeper.  At nine minutes no matter what, we’re on our way out.  I don’t care what’s going on around us.=/\=

Bancroft/Meris: Response

Alex kept her eyes sweeping from side to side.  They didn’t just have to deal with the radiation, but there was always a possibility of this being caused by an unknown entity within the crew or an intruder.

Tho’Bi: ::to Storm:: =/\= The Jefferies Tube leads directly to main Engineering ::beat:: But it also takes us directly under the Warp Reactor ::beat:: It’s going to be hot. =/\=

Alex tapped the Engineer on the shoulder to tell him to wait a second and she turned to face the other two.

Storm: =/\=We’re going to take the Jeffries tube as quickly as we can.   It’s hot, but we also need to be careful that we don’t tear our suits.  Tho’Bi, you take the front and I will bring up the rear.  Quickly, but cautiously.  Everyone got it?=/\=

Bancroft/Meris: Response

Storm: =/\= Let’s go, Ensign.  You lead the way.  Bancroft,  you next.  Meris, you’re in front of me.=/\=

Bancroft/Meris/Tho’bi:  Response.

Alex tried to practice her own instructions.  Quickly and cautiously.  As she entered the Jeffries tube the heat began to heat the outside of the suit.  They may be protected from radiation, but they wouldn’t be protected from the heat.  Ten meters in and her entire back was drenched in sweat.

Storm:  How we doing up there?  Everybody sound off.

Bancroft/Meris/Thobi: Response.

Storm:  ::To Tho’bi:: Any idea how much further, Ensign?  ::To everyone::  Everyone, I can imagine that it’s getting harder to see because of all of the sweat.  Let’s keep focused.

Bancroft/Meris/Thobi: Response.
