After what seemed like a confusing negotiation of which she only barely understood. She had largely underestimated what bargaining and negotiating would entail and the concept of an economy outside of how one would know of it intellectually.
In order to get away from the store as quickly as possible Ava had an idea.
Munro: To think on Earth in the 20th century this was an everyday experience. I don't know about you but I feel like finding one of those cosy market venues that sell mulled wine from the advertisements. You fancy it?
Jovenan shrugged at first, more than likely in response to Ava’s comments about Earth of the past. Her next words seemed in agreement with Ava.
Jovenan: I’d love that! Let’s go before he gets back and finds something else to sell us.
Munro: That is a good idea.
With a quick step Ava left the store, and both of them returned to the Sacred Marketplace. Ava enjoyed the festiveness of the place. They were surrounded by bright flashing lights, the noisy chatter of bartering and crying out for sales, and jingles could be heard nearby. Then all of the people around them of all different species looked joyful. It was certainly a merry environment.
As they walked along, stopping on occasion to take in some other sparkling light show they chatted.
Jovenan: If you want to, you could use some of my money to buy the gifts. I haven’t used any of my stipend before this, and I won’t be needing any of it after I’ll get the presents for my boyfriend and maybe the Captain, I think. So you don’t need to keep up with your calculations…
Munro: Don't worry about that. If I have to owe some credits to settle a debt to the Federation I can handle that :: mischievous :: Can't deny this woman a little indulgence.
Finding the stand that sold the types of drinks they were looking for, the two officers joined the queue.
Jovenan: You mentioned knowing something about baby clothes. Is it okay to ask if that from personal experience or through osmosis?
Munro: It's been quite a while now but from experience. My daughter, Harper, is almost 19 years old. I graduated from the Academy while I was pretty heavily pregnant. A little unconventional.
Jovenan: Response
As the queue started to whittle down, they stepped forwards.
Munro: At the Academy, she's a Science major. Definitely takes that from her father. He is not happy unless he's exploring a nebula or scanning a strange new world :: shrugs and more reflective :: Maybe she's trying to impress him.
Ava pulled the umbrella closer to her. The creeping doubt that she may have over shared blushed her cheeks.
Jovenan: Response
Munro: He's a complicated man :: shrugs :: In the list of priorities we fell below career and exploration. Slightly wounded my ego but Harper dotes on her father, she sees him as a hero :: changing subject :: What about you? You mentioned a boyfriend? Who's the lucky man?
Jovenan: Response
