Lt Alex Storm - Make Them Proud

After Alex almost plummeted own the Jeffries tube, it shook her enough to bring her focus back. She was used to pushing her body, but this exercise took it to the next level.
But the Betazoid was encouraged when she could actually hear Cole’s mostly clear comm.
Cole: =/\= How…the air…there Bermen? =/\=
Alex climbed and listened. Left hand, left foot, right hand, right foot.
Bergmen: =/\= Breathable. =/\=
Left hand, left foot, right hand, right foot.
Storm: =/\= That’s encouraging. As is the fact I can understand your comms. It must be that we’re further from the source of radiation. =/\=
But a moment later, Alex saw Bergman disappear for a split second. She then saw a hand reach over the edge to help Cole up.
Cole: =/\= I’m real… feeling the Rad…Bergmen. I won’t lie…is rougher than…expected. But we…got a job…do, and I’d …limp beside…u than si…on the sidelines. =/\=
Alex kept climbing. Just a few more rungs and she’d be on the landing with the others. She shook her head to keep it in the game. But a moment later she emerged onto the landing, and sat with her back against the wall - just a breather. Just a split second, but she reminded herself that they didn’t have a split second.
Cole: =/\= ::to Storm:: What’s the next step of the plan? =/\=
Bergmen: ::gasping:: =/\= We.. continue. =/\=
Storm: =/\= Bergman’s right. We climb.=/\=
Alex watched Bergman continue down the JT to the next ladder.
Storm: =/\=We’ve got four more levels if we can muster the strength to do them. We are going to try to eject the core from the Antimatter loading ports.=/\=
Alex watched Ollie try to get to his feet again, but he collapsed. When he turned, Alex had to keep herself from gasping. Just because she could sense his emotions didn’t mean she was prepared to see what she saw. His face was white - not quite transparent. Blood trickled form his nose. His lip was split and oozed blood as well. His skin was splotchy - whether just with blood or because of anything else, she was’nt sure. Alex hurried to his side. She looked at him gravely, asking her question with her eyes.
Bergmen: ::gasping:: =/\= I’m…okay. =/\=
Storm: ::Shaking her head inside her helmet.:: =/\= No, you’re not, but I’m not going to force you to sit this out. If you want to keep going, do. Otherwise, Cole and I will do what we can.=/\=
Cole: Response
Bergmen: ::gasping:: =/\= No. I can…continue. Mission… Mission comes first. =/\=
Alex understood his thinking. Any of them would give themselves to complete the mission. And if they would do so in a simulation, during the real thing, they would push themselves even harder. Alex placed a hand on his shoulder.
Storm: =/\= We’ve got your back. Lead us to victory, Bergman. =/\=

Once again, Storm chose to bring up the rear. She wanted to make sure that the others on the team were safe. If something happened, she could - at least try to - catch them, to aid them if need by, and to watch to see any problems from the rear. Alex stepped from the Jeffries Tube one side of the ladder to the tube on the other side of the ladder. The helped steady each as they started up and then fell in behind them as they continued.
Storm: =/\= It’s easier to eject the core from the antimatter loading ports than from the what the team in engineering is attempting, but it’s much further away.
Cole/Bergman: Response
oO One foot in front of the other. One hand over the other. You can do this, Alex. Watch over the team. Help them keep their heads in the game. Help them physically if need be. Motivate them. Keep your own head in the game. You can do this, Alex…just a few more minutes. Oo
Storm: =/\= If they complete their task before we do, we don’t have to complete ours, but if they run into a sticking point in theirs, we are the last failsafe.=/\=
