(( Turbolift, USS Artemis-A))

Gavrin leaned back against the wall of the turbolift as he waited for Tamio to consider the question he'd asked them. Had he overstepped his boundaries already? They'd said any question, but maybe that was too far?

K’Wara: Difficult to describe. She takes her job seriously, and expects us to do the same, but she’s also a prankster who can’t bear to interrupt an impromptu dance performance and has apparently once invited the entire crew to her family home for a grill party during shore leave. There’s layers to her, as there is to anyone.

Gavrin gave an internal sigh of relief. Not too far, and the answer was surprisingly reassuring, leaving him with... well, a complex picture of the captain. As most pictures of people were, he supposed.

Tarsan: ::nodding:: Yeah... they always tell us to go as formal as possible but, it's always different in real life, right?

K'Wara: Wise words there. My recommendation? Be honest and forthright, and don’t worry too much about what you think the Captain wants to hear, ‘cause odds are, you’ll be wrong and just make a fool of yourself. ::chuckles:: I certainly did. Any other questions?

Tarsan: Well, just one more I can think of right now... Anyone else I should do my best to impress? ::wry grin:: Don't want to accidentally upset the person who's going to put me on scrubbing the hull for the entire tour.

K'Wara: I’d like to think few Artemisians would go that far against a fresh Ensign. But, maybe avoid Lieutenants Vailani and Meyers, and the librarian, until you’ve found your spacelegs?

Gavrin's eyebrows lifted. He wasn't used to librarians on ships. Well. It was his first posting, so really he wasn't used to anything on ships but it certainly wasn't a posting he'd considered common. But, clear the ship had a need for one, so he just nodded and followed-up.

Tarsan: Are they particularly... uh, grouchy?

K’Wara: Not exactly. Slightly more difficult than most. Did you take any classes with Commander Berin? They’re kind of like that. ::looks up as the door slides open:: Ah. We’re here.

(( Bridge - Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))

Gavrin straightened from where he'd been leaning and stepped out after Tamio, his breath catching in his throat as he realised that for the very first time he was on the bridge of a starship as a Starfleet officer. His eyes widened and he stopped by the turbolift doors, hand reaching out to the wall to steady himself. He'd been on simulations, sure, but there was an indescribable difference to stepping onto a real bridge.

K’Wara: Welcome to the Bridge, Gavrin.

The Betazoid almost didn't hear the words from Tamio, and it took a few seconds before he managed to get out some half-garbled noise that could have been words.

Tarsan: Oh---- wow.

Internally he was horrified. This wasn't the way to inspire people's confidence in him, a new Ensign. "Oh wow" great. Well done Gavrin.

K’Wara: Have you done many duty simulations on a Luna class?

Tarsan: ::shaking his head and forcing real words out this time:: Only a few. But this feels so different.

Gavrin steeled himself and stepped out onto the bridge. Most of the crew present had probably given him a once over and gone back to their jobs, but he felt like he could imagine every eye on him, watching him. He moved towards the nearest unoccupied console, running a hand over its frame. He could picture the power running through the conduits, almost feel the buzzing of it.

K'Wara: Response

Gavrin reddened as he tore himself out of the world his mind was lost in, realising he'd missed everything that Tamio had said.

Tarsan: Sorry? Could you repeat that? I uh... sorry.

K'Wara: Response

Tarsan: It's just so.. different, you know? Like, it's mine. ::realising how that might have sounded, blustering to talk over himself:: I mean. It's not mine, obviously. It's the Captain's. I mean, it's Starfleet's. Clearly.

Gavrin finally, mercifully, realised he should stop talking and shut his mouth.

K'Wara: Response
