((Kerrit Dromos Race Track - City One, Rylor))
The cheering from the audience seats had died down some, not only because the gap between the two racers was so excessively in the favor of the one side, but also because the racers were currently at their farthest point away from the stands, so their cheering would be unintelligible nonsense. Didn’t stop people from cheering, mind, but it had grown beyond actual advice and feedback, and more into mindless hooting and whistling.
Vailani: You both realise that he can't hear you, right? He's at least a kilometer away from us. Humans, to my knowledge, have inferior hearing comparable to most other species. In fact a Vulcan up in that hill :: points to a hill in the distance :: is more likely to hear your shouts than Doctor Bancroft.
That would be another part of the reason, yeah. Lieutenant Vailani would’ve made a fantastic Tellarite in another life.
K’Wara: At least slightly closer would be preferable. ::to the group:: So Vailani’s a holoprogrammer, I’m a sculptor, Ava and Roy are obviously jocks. What about the two of you?
Just because their cheering would have limited effect on the race, that didn’t mean they had to be silent, after all. This was an opportune moment to get to know each other a little better, and who knows - maybe the three of them, collectively, would be able to convince Lieutenant Vailani Zoyara that socializing wasn’t too bad of a pastime.
Imril: I tinker here and there. Build projects.
Storm: What kinds of projects, Imril?
Imril: I build models now and then. ::Thinking up examples:: I put together a mock-up of Vitor’s arcade holo, back when I was helping him expand it. Kept adding pieces to it as the program got bigger. And I made up a glass-walled variant of the old XCV ships for a holodeck program. Liked how it looked so much I made myself a miniature version for my quarters.
‘Arcade holo’. Tamio’s felinoid eyes glinted in the sunlight. Their interest was piqued.
Storm: That sounds like a fun hobby. ::a beat, eyes flicking back to the track::
Vailani: Hopefully one day we'll get to see your creations?
That was a fantastic idea, and one that Tamio was unwilling to let pass by.
K’Wara: We should host an exhibition in the Holodeck at some point. All the artsy Artemisians displaying their creations in one place.
What constituted ‘art’ in this context was up for debate - in Tamio’s opinion, it should be anything, truly - but the invitation was out in the open now, and hopefully this was something they could organize later in the year. It would make for a fun teambuilding exercise, and Tamio would admit to some curiosity as to how many Artemisians considered themselves artists in one way or another.
Imril: ::To K’Wara:: What do you sculpt?
K’Wara: Usually people. Abstract portrait sculptures are a passion of mine.
Storm: Do you usually work in your quarters, Tamio?
Tamio quickly shook their head. While they were fully capable of sculpting in their room, it held very little appeal to them. They wanted to capture the living essence of their inspiration, and unfortunately, there was usually a distinct lack of ‘life’ in their quarters.
K'Wara: Oh, no, I work everywhere. Usually wherever my subject is, so I can get their color right. Working with people in the abstract colors and patterns that I feel convey their ‘essence’ means direct observation gives better results.
Vailani: People have colours, huh? What shade of blue is that?
Tamio looked to what Lieutenant Vailani gestured towards, seeing that the hapless Doctor had met with even more unfortunate developments on his racing journey. This time, in the form of untied shoelaces.
Truly, his bad luck was staggering.
K’Wara: ... Not blue. I’ve always considered Roy more of a warm peach color, though the situation probably calls for something more Warm Camel-adjacent. ::looks up to Storm:: That leaves just you. Any hobbies to share?
Storm: Cool. I … free climb cliffs and make pottery.
It did not surprise Tamio in the slightest that the fit-looking Tactical Officer enjoyed extreme sports as a hobby.
Vailani: I painted a horghan once on Risa. That confirmed to me that I have no artistic talent outside of a Holodeck. Pottery and sculpting are very similar, yes?
Tamio physically reeled at that comment. Did Vailani Zoyara just casually drop into this conversation that she had painted, a horga’hn!?
oO There’s a story in there somewhere. Oo
But not one they were willing to risk their physical wellbeing to try and tease out of the prickly Bajoran right this instant.
Imril: Response
Storm: Not quite the same thing as sculpting, but there are some similarities.
K’Wara: Same fundamental principles, at least. My fingers may not get dirty while doing holosculpting, but it’s still about translating what you see with your mind’s eye to a material.
It was at this moment that Lieutenant Vailani stood up with such a haste, Tamio briefly worried whether she’d noticed another blatant security breach on the tracks somewhere, and they looked around in reaction. It soon became apparent, however, that the ‘breach’ in question was not external at all, but internal to the blonde woman herself.
Vailani: I'm going to go :: looks to the others :: It's the sun and the wind. I need to … go.
And off she was.
K’Wara: … Lieutenant?
Imril/Storm: Response
Tamio shook their head.
K’Wara: Who knows? ::looks back:: Ah, they’ve crossed the halfway mark!
Imril/Storm: Response
K’Wara: I really should’ve bet something. ::snaps their fingers:: This’ll teach me to let an opportunity pass me by!
Imril/Storm: Response
