((The Temple of Zor’Adi - Medara City - Betazed))
Antares: I want you to say what is in your heart, Alexandra. I have thought about our interactions over the years. The missteps, the misunderstandings and the resentments. I never offered you kindness and I regret that. Maybe if I had things would be different between us.
It was a call for honesty and surrender. Elsine glanced away from Alexandra briefly before forcing herself to look her in the eye.
Storm: I’ve also learned to see my own fault in my current situation. I’m not saying that there is not enough blame to go around, but I also bear guilt in where I find myself now.
Antares: Guilt is such a :: thinks :: simplistic notion. Indulge me for a moment, Alexandra :: lifts her hand in apology :: I am a linguistics expert after all. Did you know that the Gorn don't have a word for guilt. Their society was built upon instincts, nature and strength. That meant that their language evolved in such a proficient way. Words like guilt were not required because they represent the past. The Gorn live in the moment and look to the future. Love, pain, passion and hope :: smiles :: They have a point, don't you think? Looking back at the past only traps us in circles and wastes time that we don't have. You don't have.
The woman seemed to catch her breath, Elsine felt the emotion come off her like she was a little torch in the room.
Storm: I know your heart is breaking, I can feel it, and I can empathize in a very real way. Mine has been breaking for a long time. For the marriage I had a hand in ruining - and when it was too late, I had tried to save. For the life that I had hoped to live - full of joy and promise. But more than either of those, for the daughter…
Elsine smiled, Alexandra could feel the pain that she allowed her to feel and the other mourners. She was a skilled teacher who learnt how to hide their deeper emotions a long time ago.
She wouldn't tell Alexandra or anyone of the deeper well that existed within her. The Gorn had a word for it.
Bedok. Self free. And she refused to feel guilty or ashamed for it. She had loved Kyre and she had honoured her vows to her husband, her parents, her grandparents and her son. She had devoted her life to that and where had it gotten Cassandra.
Storm: For the daughter I never even got to say goodbye to.
Antares: You'll see her again. Kona cannot continue like this forever and neither can you.
Elsine was of the mind to contact the legal authorities about the entire situation. Kyre and Kona had convinced her not to, indeed they had cited Alexandra's own reluctance to do so effectively. The young mother had wanted to pursue it civilly. A fact that Kona had taken advantage of.
It was absurd to her, it always had been. It seemed that they had forgotten that there was a child in the centre of all of this. A child that was being used as a pawn. As a weapon in some foolish tug of war.
Storm: I want to see my daughter and hold her in my arms. I want to affirm to her that I love her. That she is my life. That is what I want.
Antares: I want that for you, Alexandra. You must do everything you can. You are a Starfleet officer :: shrugs :: I don't see Betazoid enforcement officers, Starfleet operatives or have witnessed a summons for Kona's arrest?
Elsine was more pointed than she would have liked but she spoke her own truth. As a grandmother, and a mother. She did so without accusation and beseechingly. It was a desperate plea. She knew that Kona could end up in a penal colony and still she wanted to allow Alexandra to do as she ought too. To give her permission, if that was even being asked for.
Storm: Response
Antares: Then the alternative appears to be that your daughter is on the run with Kona :: shakes her head :: I can't tolerate it anymore, this game that is being played. I won't be an unwilling pawn. Not now, not that Kyre has passed. I can't wait to put this planet and it's ways behind me.
Storm: Response
Antares: Kona didn't tell me where he was going but I am his mother. I know my child and I know his ways. He had prepared himself for a cold climate. Clothes, equipment and supplies. It looked to me that he was preparing to stay there. I didn't get to see his transport plans :: looks to Alexandra :: It needs to end.
Elsine hoped that the young woman took the meaning in her words. She would not stand by and allow this farce to continue, even if it meant pressing charges against her own son. She hoped that Alexandra would eventually find her daughter, and that she would be able to build a relationship with both of them. Come what may to Kona. He was her son but she could not allow it to continue.
