Bancroft: ::pretending to inspect his fingernails:: So. First mission’s on the viewer aft. First real patient without an instructor or attending hovering over you, and they didn’t bite, scream, or spontaneously combust. You even got to dose an entire civilization, which is becoming something of a tradition around here.

Jira met Roy's eyes as he looked up.

Bancroft: What’s the verdict? Starfleet Medical everything you dreamed it’d be?

What a question. Jira had never dreamed of being in Starfleet Medical. They hadn't even considered it as an option until the Prophets told them to go. But they threw themselves into it with the same energy that they had done everything else in their life.

Jaran: It's... letting me do what I need to do. I need to be helping people, and it's hard to deny the opportunity and resources that I get to do that with Starfleet. I took my oaths just like you did. Would you say you do much different?

Roy's eyebrows went up like the answer surprised him.

Bancroft: That’s a remarkably healthy outlook. Was that pre-installed in the base model Jaran Jira, or did you pick it up aftermarket?

Roy leaned back in his chair, and Jira took a breath to speak. But that the moment in between thoughts didn't last long enough.

Bancroft: And for the record – ::leaning back to stretch:: – “I’ve had enough talking for tonight” is a perfectly valid response. Believe me, I’ve ridden that train straight to the end of the line plenty of times. I promise my feelings won’t be hurt.

That was the human sign for "I'm done talking but I don't want to be the one to say it," as Jira had come to recognise. A polite people, to the point of concealing anything they mean at times.

But Jira was tired, too. It had been a long night.

Jaran: I do indeed think it's time for me to turn in. Early duty shift tomorrow, after all. I'll keep the incense to a minimum in the morning. ::winks:: And if I don't see you before you move out, you're always welcome to stop in for an ear grab and head pat exchange.

Bancroft: Response

Jira nodded, yawned, and took their leave. It really would be a short night's sleep. Thankfully, they were tired enough from the social expenditures of the evening that they were asleep within moments after hitting the pillow.

End of scene for Jaran
