(OOC: I’m currently working on a JP with Tom that helps bridge the scene between the rescue and the team’s appearance in the hospital. I just couldn’t help but jump on this opportunity ;)
(( Kola Mountain – Dahkur Province, Bajor ))
It was rare that the commanding officer of the Artemis found time to escape, even during shore leave. Occasionally, she’d managed to escape the confines of the ship without being detected, thankful for the opportunity to engage in some recreation and exploration of her own making without being accompanied by any security escort. Now that she was a Starfleet captain, those moments seemed to be fewer and farther between.
Addison stopped to look up at the Bajoran sun through the dense canopy that decorated the lower part of the mountain. She used her eyes to protect her eyes from looking directly into the sun, before wiping the sweat from her forehead and returning her gaze to the path ahead. In front of her, the density of the trees appeared to thin substantially – no doubt a sign that she was approaching a higher altitude. If she had to guess, she was likely halfway to the top of the mountain.
…still a long way to go.
Clad in standard-issue grey Starfleet tanktop and jumpsuit bottom, she was already sweaty and covered in dirt despite it being only midday. She removed the pack from her back, took out a canteen, and took a healthy swig from it. The water, still cold, seemed to cool her from the inside as she traced its path from her tongue to her stomach. She had to be careful not to consume too much too quickly – the day was still early and there was still plenty of mountain to climb.
Putting the canteen back in her pack, she wiped a few drops of water from the side of her mouth and hoisted the pack onto her back, slipping one arm through the straps, then the other. As she took a step, her commbadge chirped.
Morgan: =/\= Morgan to MacKenzie. =/\=
She closed her eyes and started to count, hoping that if she waited long enough, he’d get the hint and wouldn’t bother to message again. Of all people, Morgan, her protégé, knew how valuable her recreational time was.
She held her breath.
Morgan: =/\= Morgan to MacKenzie. It’s important, Captain. =/\=
Addison felt her jaw tighten.
MacKenzie: =/\= This better be good, Lieutenant… =/\=
Morgan: =/\= Several crewmembers were severely injured exploring a cave. They’ve been taken to Rakantha Central Hospital on Bajor. (beat) …It’s pretty bad, ma’am… =/\=
Her jaw tightened further. The seriousness in his voice resonated deeper than most – they’d shared more than a few close encounters with the physician. She took the pack off her back and set it on the ground, deciding that one more swig from the canteen was necessary.
It didn’t look like she’d be finishing her hike today, anyway.
MacKenzie: =/\= I’m on my way. =/\= =/\= MacKenzie to Artemis. Beam me directly to Rakantha Central Hospital. =/\=
After her commbadge chirped, she was enveloped in the familiar blue, swirling light as she dematerialized.
(( Rakantha Central Hospital – Rakantha Province, Bajor ))
The red-headed
commanding officer of the Artemis, sweaty and dirty, was hardly the type
of person you’d expect to find in a hospital, let alone the kind of person who
should be let into the hospital… But Addison MacKenzie forced her way
through the doors and to the reception desk in a series of swift steps that
would have had anyone who witnessed it believing that she’d been literally
pushed into the room by the air. She leaned over the receptionist seated at the
desk, intending to be as intimidating and imposing a presence as possible.
MacKenzie: I’m Captain Addison MacKenzie of the USS Artemis – I’m
told I have several injured officers here…
Bajoran Receptionist: Yes, of course, right this way, Captain…
The receptionist led MacKenzie down several hallways. Addison tried stomping
her feet behind the woman, hoping the heavy footsteps would indicate that she
wasn’t moving as fast as Addison would have preferred but they eventually
stopped at a room in the recovery ward of the hospital. The receptionist pushed
open the door, and Addison followed her inside. There, Lieutenant Jovenan, clad in a hospital gown, and Ensign Gnai were
standing above a gravely wounded Ensign Chevalier.
MacKenzie: You fools better have a good explanation for this.
Jovenan/Gnai/Chevalier: Response
