(( Captain’s Ready Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))
MacKenzie wasn’t happy.
There’s a surprise.
When the commanding officer of the Artemis returned
to the ship, she was tired. She and her officers had been thrown into
the middle of a warzone and had acts of violence committed against them
directly for their attempted investigation of interference between the Grunden
and the Kobyar. When the adrenaline had worn off, she found herself left with
an immense feeling of satisfaction – that they had managed to get to the
bottom of who had been influencing these two peoples to continue their
senseless war, that they had managed to raise this truth to the people
of Galaris IV, and they had empowered two new leaders to forge a new path
forward for a better, peaceful coexistence.
With a sense of accomplishment and a relief at leaving
Galaris, she was looking forward to returning to the Artemis.
And then she rematerialized.
In the transporter room, she’d been met with flickering screens
(those that were still halfway functional, anyway), crewmen running around in
all directions with tools in their hands, and the acrid stench of fried gel
packs and electrical problems. Injured crewmembers in arm slings lending a free
hand whenever able.
I’ll be looking forward to Commander Jovenan’s report.
With repairs underway and the Artemis underway to Deep
Space 224, they would be delivering the Orions and their ship to Starfleet to
face justice for their interference on Galaris, it was now time to return to
the order of overseeing the ship’s business. With PADDs in hand, she continued
to wade through Commander Jovenan’s report on the issue while simultaneously
drafting her own to submit to Starfleet Command. True to form, that’s when the chime
rang.
MacKenzie: Come in!
The doors swished open, allowing admittance to Lieutenant Gila
Sadar, their Assistant Chief Medical Officer. MacKenzie offered a friendly smile
and put the PADDs on the desk, not expecting to see the Mizarian – who made it
a habit of avoiding the captain whenever possible – willingly enter her
office. And not just enter, but full throttle bound into her office and
put a PADD of her own on MacKenzie’s desk.
MacKenzie: Doctor Sad-
Sadar: ::high-pitched shriek::
I’M A CRIMINAL.
Oh, the drama.
MacKenzie blinked, wondering if today
would be the day the Mizarian actually lost a finger by twisting her anxiety
band too tightly. She offered Gila a skeptical glance.
MacKenzie: You’re a what?
Sadar: Response
Her brow furrowed,
offering another skeptical glance. If she had pegged any member of her crew to
commit any kind of illegal acts, it certainly wouldn’t have been Gila. Not by a
mile. Hiding under a rock? That was a different story…
MacKenzie: …a criminal.
Sadar: Response
MacKenzie raised her arms
slightly with her palms facing the ceiling.
MacKenzie: What’s this all about?
Sadar: Response
Tag, and TBC!
