((Deck 2, Engineering, USS Arrow))
Dewitt: You heard the Captain! Crewmen Dug, V'Lak, and Ren will assemble all off-the-shelf parts in Cargo Bay 1. Ensign Ferentis is with me.
Ferentis would, of course, show no surprise at the sudden call of his name, but he felt it. It was somewhat new for him still, to be specifically summoned instead of being left to his own devices, literally. Still, the youthful and apparently default chief engineer seemed to know what he was doing, and Ferentis would gladly oblige his command.
Ferentis: ::after a moment of throat clearing rumbles:: After you, sir.
((The Forge, USS Arrow))
Ferentis’ people were, for the most part, quite civilized, but they were also creative. Starfleet's obsession with pastels did little to please the elderly dinosaurs stark sense of tastes, and while the thrumming machine that the crew had begun to colloquially refer to as the Forge looked like something that did not belong, it’s emphasis on creation was too compelling for Ferentis to ignore. Wires and conduits and blocky chunks of metal kept it threaded to the ship, and as the lights continued to sim throughout the vessel, the activity and glowing orange fury within the primary maw of the anachronistic device only increased in intensity.
Dewitt: Initialize the replicators, Ensign. You'll cover everything for the Warp core power couplers. I'll work with the dilithium chamber resonators.
Ferentis: Aye sir.
Ferentis set to work, his plodding yet alert form easily and capably handling the task assigned to him. Connor, however, offered a chuckle that Ferentis felt obligated to investigate.
Dewitt: ::chuckling:: I guess that distribution of tasks fits our physique. I cannot even lift one power coupler by myself.
Ferentis turned back to what he was doing, and the coupling in his claw.
Ferentis: Strength I may have, lieutenant, but good eyes I do not. Perhaps you would direct me to the micro-alignment calibrator.
Dewitt: Second drawer from your right.
With the device found, Ferentis was able to continue and moments later, Connor’s plans began to materialize at his hands. Ferentis began to remove the larger components, organizing them as he set them aside for maximum efficiency down the line.
Dewitt: So, is this your first assignment after the Academy?
It was rare for the Pahkwa-Thanh to laugh, but on this occasion, it couldn’t be helped. It was a low, intimidating shudder with clicks and growls, like a shoebill crossed with a lion’s ferocity.
Ferentis: Lieutenant, with respect, how old do you believe I am?
Dewitt: Response
Another more muted chuckle.
Ferentis: I suppose I should be flattered, sir. Let me put it this way for you, youthful superior; there are installations in the Museum of Cosmological Archaeology that are younger than me.
Dewitt: Response
