((OOC: Happy new Year everyone! ))

((Deck 4, Section 7 - USS Arrow))

It had been a couple of days since she had spoken to Captain Shayne about temporarily taking the helm. A couple of days that had been full of work. She had expected something like this, but Jenna had not expected the sheer amount of custom adaption of the Arrow's systems. On her way to the Computer core, she read through the specifications of the Arrow's failsafe systems, especially with the new Proteus Drive installed.

One of those failsafe systems specified a holodeck on deck 4 that she had not read about in her official briefings. It was automatically powered down when shields or Proteus drive were activated. As she walked by the door to the holosuite compartments, she decided to risk a look and stopped to press the buttons next to the doors.

With the usual hiss, the doors slid open, and the young Trill discovered what looked like a startled engineer caught in his fight with an ODN line. He looked surprised as he tried to make himself presentable.

Niac: Afternoon...or, evening, is it? I don't believe we've met - Cmdr. Karrod Niac, I'm the ships new XO.

She immediately remembered her talk to Maz on her first day. She had been glad to have found another Trill on board, especially one she had instantly connected with on multiple levels. Was he gone? Jenna felt sorrow rise in her stomach as the new XO finally arranged himself in front of her.

Her sadness was immediately lightened as she spotted the familiar spots along Karrod's face. What were the odds of meeting another Trill onboard? A sincere smile went over her lips.

Perim: Cadet Jenna Perim, pleased to meet you... Sir!

As she took the offered hand of the Commander, he gave her a thin smile. As her hand left his', she noticed some grease residues, trying to get rid of them on her uniform.

Niac: Good to meet you. Don't suppose you've got a few spare minutes? ::Karrod nodded towards the still significant pile of components:: I'm trying to get this hologrid online and I could use an extra set of hands.

Jenna looked at her PADD and the list of tasks she wanted to accomplish today. She had not much free time during the last couple of days. So what could be the harm in spending half an hour here? She put down her PADD on a nearby console.

Perim: I am all yours. Actually, I just learned about this holodeck.

The pair faced the previously cursed ODN line again. Jenna had yet to run through her tour of engineering but had completed all academy courses necessary for pilots. Although they focussed more on Shuttle maintenance and modification, this couldn't be much different, could it?

Niac: Response

Jenna nodded at her assigned task and grabbed a couple of tools from the nearby toolbox. As she lay down to crawl into the narrow space and regulate the flow of the secondary ODN lines, she started to talk again.

Perim: I have to admit to missing Trill a little. A holodeck could definitely help with that. It is like having a piece of home on the ship. ::she paused a little as she thought about all the places she could visit:: Where on Trill are you from?

Niac: Response
