(( USS Arrow, Deck 3, Sickbay ))

As the nurse went to retrieve a hypo and swabs, Ar’Gorvalei took out a PADD and considered the patient before him, Lieutenant Junior Grade Hayley Caden, and her strange, flu-like symptoms.

Ar’Gorvalei: In the meantime, I’d like to pull up the results of your last physical. When was it?

Caden: I believe it was the last time we had a shore leave. With someone. Her name was :: taking a few seconds to think of her name :: Cadet Bonnie Tylas, I believe? And maybe a couple before her. I haven't had one since my academy days.

Ar’Gorvalei was starting to get the impression that Lt. Caden really did not like sickbay.

Caden: So, I can leave now?

oO We haven’t done anything yet! Oo

Ar’Gorvalei: If you can bear with me for just a little bit, Nurse Othlin can get those samples we need and then we can run them through the computer. ::Glancing at biobed monitor:: In the meantime, I want to use your previous physicals to create a baseline to compare with your current vitals. I need to try and determine what is normal for you.

Ar’Gorvalei created a baseline on his PADD using Lt. Caden’s previous physicals. The real reason he wanted to try and create a baseline was Caden’s mixed human and Betazoid ancestry. Hybrids, even hybrids of the same species, were all so variable that each individual had their own “normal.” The lieutenant was already on edge, though, and Ar’Gorvalei was not sure how she would react to his discussing her ancestry.

Nurse Othlin moved in to press the hypo to the lieutenant’s arm to draw the blood sample. The nurse followed it up with a quick, expert nasal swab, and put both samples into the nearby computer.

Ar’Gorvalei read the results as they came up. His smile slipped, and he frowned at the data.

Caden: Response?

Ar'Gorvalei slipped the PADD back into its cradle and turned his attention to his patient, holding his hands in front of him.

Ar’Gorvalei: Lieutenant, you have unidentified foreign microbes in your blood. It is likely the cause of the symptoms you have been experiencing. I’d like to keep you under observation in sickbay until we can determine more about their nature.

Caden: Response

Distracted, Ar’Gorvalei didn’t notice Maz Rodan come up until the first officer lifted the PADD out of its base and glance at its contents.

Ar'Gorvalei: ::Startled:: Ah, hello, sir. I was just speaking with a patient.

Caden: Response?

Rodan: Oh, I must stop doing that! Like Dr. Mason always reminds me, I'm not a doctor anymore!

oO Anymore? Oo

Ar’Gorvalei filed the surprising statement away for future reference.

Caden: Response

He smiled and squinted, casting a careful eye over the bay in case his friend was watching him. He replaced the PADD and stood firmly with his hands behind his back.

Rodan: Well, I have good news... The scans of the shuttle and surrounding area showed zero contamination from the Hulk. Even Millie's quarantine has been lifted. Which is good news for the ship and crew. And we can rule out infection for you.

Ar'Gorvalei: Then the hulk is not the source of Lt. Caden’s foreign microbes and her resultant symptoms?

Caden: Response

Rodan: ::Sighing slightly.:: I was hoping you both could fill in the mystery of that. If it wasn't the Hulk... then what is it?

Ar'Gorvalei: ::Glances at Caden:: At this point, and without further information, I am at a loss.

Caden: Response

Rodan: I'll take wild stabs in the dark at this point. Give me something!

Ar’Gorvalei: I would not presume to “stab wildly in the dark” until I have further data.

Caden: Response
