((Atlas Base - Main Gathering Hall))

Spirits were high in the little gathering room in the little base on the little planet in the middle of nowhere. People were enjoying themselves left and right and the small group of Arrow officers had discussed the next step of the night's entertainment.

Commander Collins had installed a holo-imager in the gathering room a few days before the ceremony, which had many options of entertainment from a snooker table, air hockey table, poker table, ping pong table, virtually any table you could ever need, since the imager was roughly the size of a table, bolted to the floor. It's design was to project upwards into the room, while running on its own independent power. It also had the power to create a modest piano simulation, and, in cases of extreme boredom, a karaoke machine.

Regan and his merry bunch of colleagues had approached the holo-imager and managed to activate it. At once a piano fizzled into existence, and Regan had to toggle through the settings to get the karaoke machine. It materialised neatly, with a little microphone and screen to show the user the appropriate words. Smiling, Regan keyed in the song he wanted to sing, and hoped the sound system in the gathering hall could take it.

Around them more groups of people cottoned on to what they were doing. Some seemed amused that one of their own was going to publicly embarrass themselves, others looked on in confusion. He was pretty sure karaoke never made it to planets like Vulcan, or Bajor.

Regan picked up the microphone and cleared his throat before vocalizing some keys. He hadn't sung since the academy, if you didn't count his sonic shower ballads where you were allowed by Starfleet order to be terrible, but he was a decent singer and knew how to put on a show so even if he stunk, people wouldn't care.

With a nod, he pressed the play button on the holographic machine and a loud rock and roll guitar riff blasted from the speakers. He'd picked a song he was at least familiar with, which he'd found in the history records many years ago. He hid an amused smirk as it startled some of the gathered, but he clapped his hands steadily to the beat and readied himself for singing. Glory or embarrassment awaits!

Wilde: Weeeell I play an old guitar from nine till a-half past one
I'm just tryin' to make a livin' watching everybody else havin' fun
Well I don't miss much if it happens on a dance hall floor
Mercy! Look what just walked through that door
Weeeell hello T-R-O-U-B-L-E!
Tell me what in the world
You doin' A-L-O-N-E
Yeah I say hey good L-double-O-K-I-N-G
Well I smell T-R-O-U-B-L-E! Yeah!
I was a little bitty baby when my papa hit the skids
Mama had a time tryin' to raise nine kids
She told me not to stare cause it was impolite
She did the best she could to try to raise me right
Cause my mama never told me 'bout nothin' like Y-O-U
Bet your mama musta been another good lookin' honey too
Yeeeaah, hey good L-double-O-K-I-N-G
Well I smell T-R-O-U-B -L-E!
As the instrumental break amplified in the hall and the sound of rock guitar and honky-tonk piano tore up the speakers, Regan stepped onto a nearby chair, then hitched himself up onto the accompanying table to dance. He was really enjoying himself as he sang to his shipmates.
Well you're a sweet talkin', sexy walkin', honky tonkin' baby
The men are gonna love ya and the woman gonna hate ya
Remindin' them of everything they're never gonna be
May be the beginning of a World War Three
Cause the world ain't ready for nothing like Y-O-U
I bet your mama musta been another good lookin' mama too!
Heeeeey, I say hey good L-double-O-K-I-N-G
Well I smell T-R-O-U-B-L-E!
I said hey!
I said hey!
I said hey!
I said hey!
I said hey!
I smell T-R-O-U-B-L-E!

The music rode into its fade, and Regan gave a joyful whoop and performed what his searches on the computer into popular history references called 'the mic drop'.

Anyone: Response?
