Artinus stared long and hard at the docking manifest for the next couple of days. The Magna Roman arched his right brow in the Vulcan manner, an expression almost as ubiquitous among the fleet as a Terran handshake. The Arrow would be here in a few days. He'd not expected his old friends and colleagues to  be taking a shore leave in this spot so soon.  Still, it would be wonderful to see them. Snapping out of his revelry, he slowly studied the rest of the incoming vessels.

Serinus: Computer, dictate a letter to Lieutenant Junior Grade Zenno, USS Arrow.

The station computer double beeped an affirmation.

Serinus: Mr Zenno. Semi-colon. Double Space.

There was so much to say, if he could find the words. With two parents who had been retired diplomats, and a classical Magna Roman education with a fine dose of logic and rhetoric, he could have a way with words even though he rarely spoke at length.

Serinus: I hope this letter finds you well. I was greatly surprised that the Arrow will be taking shore leave right here, so soon after my departure.  I am eager to catch up, and offer any advice that you may find helpful in this format, or in person. I can't help but feel I still have some guidance that I wasn't able to transmit before we parted ways.

Coming up the ranks without a security mentor in the real fleet, and splitting responsibility of a department chief most of his career had really made the Magna Roman value that part of his role. Yet through circumstance, he never got to do that with someone to an extent that he would have wanted. Some and went too quickly, others were simply too Wilde to really fit, but he had always did what he could.

Still, there was always that lingering doubt.

Serinus: As for myself, there are many mixed feelings. There are many friends and acquaintances that are already dearly missed, as is that old warship as rough and stubborn as she is. There truly is something also about the call of the stars that one can only appreciate when one stays settled in one place for too long.

There was much beauty amongst the Isles, sprinkled with horror as they were.

Serinus: I've certainly gotten a refresher on the other side of the Security duty post, and a certain Vulcan acquaintance of ours has been reacquainting me with police procedure. There's not been any particularly intriguing mysteries yet, but I will try not to jinx myself there.

Not that Artinus had ever been a fatalist.

Serinus: On a lighter note, the gym here is extravagant, and one of the local businesses has all kinds of fitness activities. I am challenged in the wrestling class they offer even.

That was the most pleasant surprise of all.

Serinus: Tlhirogni' loves her walks through the arboretum, and her joy brings joy to me. And with those lessons in mind, I've taken the initiative to provide the two of us more flora within our own quarters here.

He would hardly brag about how lovely his office was, thus he signed off.

Serinus: I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Lt. Commander Artinus Serinus.

End for now.
