((USS Arrow - Deck 1; Captain's Ready Room))
Regan had been summoned to the Ready Room for reasons as yet unknown, but ones which Regan had a slight suspicion about. It was no secret CO's were swamped with duties, and Regan already had his mind set on relieving some of the more social burdens.
Wilde: I think I know why I'm here sir.
The Captain sat back gently.
Shayne: Am I truly that obvious?
Wilde: Of course. I think it's obvious. ::He took a pause with a little knowing smile.:: You don't want to go through the organization of the staff party this leave. And you want me to take over the planning. Right? I get it, of course. It takes a lot of work to pull off a party and a CO is far too busy for such things. I'm flattered, of course, but I think you made the right choice. So, this time I'm thinking of something like, a masquerade ball...
Shayne: ...party, Mr. Wilde?
The Captain shot him a curious raised eyebrow along with what Regan assumed was an amused smirk. Regan blinked a few times in surprise and took another gulp of his coffee.
Wilde: Oh. My mistake. ::Chuckling.:: So what can I do for then, sir?
Shayne: I just had a very interesting conversation with a Mr. Marcus Wilde, apparently of your acquaintance. He requested permission to come aboard, and none too patiently.
If Regan's face had been made of china, it would have cracked. His usual smile faded, and the light in his eyes dimmed.
Wilde: He's coming here?
Shayne: Yes. Soon. I thought you should know.
Regan slowly placed the mug on the desk and glanced at it for a long time.
Shayne: Are you alright, Lieutenant?
Wilde: No, it's fine. Totally fine.
He stood and started slowly pacing the room, losing himself to his own thoughts.
Wilde: Absolutely fine. I mean, he could have called me in advance, but no, that's not how he does things.
Shayne: ...I see. Perhaps… he wanted to surprise you?
Wilde: Oh no. No, no, no. My father does not do surprises. That is, this news itself is surprising, but it wasn't intended to be a surprise. Not in that way.
Shayne: Can you think of a reason as to why he’s coming all of a sudden?
Regan turned to face his commanding officer. How much of his complicated and messy upbringing did this man have time - or inclination - for?
Wilde: None at all. I don't think he'd tell me the reason even if I asked. ::Beat:: My father and I... don't really speak. The last time I spoke to him was via subspace when I graduated last year. Just a short perfunctory message of congratulations. Nothing of interest was said. There are parts of Andoria with more warmth than that.
Shayne: Response
Wilde: Do you know, we haven't been in the same room as each other in six years. Six years! 2392 to be exact. ::He sighed and slumped back into the chair opposite the Captain.:: It was a Thursday.
Shayne: Response
Wilde: There are parts of that time I don't really remember, or spend a lot of time trying to forget. But I will never forget that day.
He let his eyes fall to the desk briefly.
Wilde: It was true what I said to Ghant that day in the conference room. They really did pay two thousand bars of latinum to get me back from the Ferengi governor. I wonder if he thinks the investment was worth it.
Shayne: Response
