::The curly-haired commander took a deep breath. She had done team briefings many times before and was no stranger to giving orders. This was the first time she was doing it as a commanding officer and it was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. She hoped she’d done okay and turned to her small team who she ushered closer with a gesture.::
Ruane: Let’s have a quick chat about how we want to handle this. We’re going to have to process lots of different types of evidence, from blood, hairs and other bodily related samples, to other physical evidence. There may be a weapon concealed on the property, or digital evidence in the form of blackmail emails, or something entirely different. Transporting up and down to the Apollo isn’t going to be very practical. The colony does have a small lab we could use, but the equipment isn’t as sensitive and advanced as ours, though it should be perfectly up to the job. However, the problem is the Numiri don’t trust the Talaxians - and using their lab could make them think our results are biased towards them. We have to be seen as being completely impartial otherwise either or both sides will reject our findings.
Sh'zatrahr: Response
::Ruane knew Sh’zatrahr was thinking along the right lines here and was sure the hotel would allow them to use one of the function rooms. They would have to ensure access was properly restricted, and have security personnel stationed inside and out around the clock to ensure no one gained access to the site. A properly calibrated tricorder went a long way but there were some pieces of diagnostic and testing equipment that may be needed that was too large to move. While they knew there were certain tools they would definitely need to help them properly process the body, they were walking into an unknown situation. They wouldn’t know everything they needed until they got there and saw what they were dealing with.::
::Transporting equipment down was also impractical because they had to not only fit equipment in but power it too. Setting up a holodeck was, in contrast, significantly simpler and more secure. They could conjure and use whatever tools they needed at any given moment, do their analysis and then shut down and secure the lab again, sending processed samples to the ship for safekeeping.::
P’au: Response
Ruane: Good ideas and points…. I like the idea of setting up a holodeck or holosuite to create our own lab near the site we’re processing. How much space would we need for that?
Sh'zatrahr: Response
Dar: If we have a fully setup holodeck, I should be able to work with it just
fine. We can still use our equipment and generate whatever is needed in
the Holodeck. If we connect our tricorders and the holomatrix itself to our ship computer, we can also automatically update the investigation, include results and access the information needed both, on the holodeck and aboard the Apollo on the computers or even with our tricorders. This way we could also easily reproduce some events or give access to anyone needed, in order to show results and conclusions.
Ruane: We’ll need to liaise with the hotel to find out how much space they have available. If there’s not enough, we may have to see if what space is available in the vicinity. Any other thoughts?
Dar: I think we must act quickly Commander. It is important. The longer we wait, the farther cell decomposition and so on will advance. Also substances, toxins, etc. will diminish and it will become more difficult to find the cause of death.
Ruane: I completely agree. ::She tapped the huge holoprojector before her to check the chronometer.:: The clock’s ticking and we have about 10 to 15 minutes before arrival. Let’s make the necessary preparations for that holodeck and get ourselves ready to transport.
((20 minutes later, Yunamax Hotel - Executive Suite))
::20 minutes later, the Apollo had arrived at New Talax. While Sh'zatrahr and Dar had made preparations for the holodeck. Andastre had sought physiological and medical data for the Numiri so that the team could properly examine the deceased. Dr P’au had spent what time they had studying it. That had just left them in need of a suitable venue for their makeshift lab, and Andastre had secured the largest function room the hotel had.::
::Now the team of 4 stood on the scene of the crime. Elsewhere an engineering team had been assigned to assemble and power up their lab, making it ready for use asap and a security team saw to it that the site was secure. Andastre spoke aired her thoughts audibly as she looked around at the scene. The diplomat’s skin seemed to be a few shades greyer than any of the Numiri she’s talked to thus far. Whether his body was this colour due to natural variance in the species, due to illness or something else, she couldn’t tell, right away. There were pictures of him splashed all over the media. She made a mental note to compare them.::
::The expression on his face did suggest he had been conscious before he died and that it hadn’t been a pleasant experience.::
Ruane: Well there’s no blood, and I don’t see any defensive wounds, bruises or trauma at a glance.
((OOC: Go ahead and fill in your own observations as well. What looks normal in the room? What doesn’t look normal? The scene is for us all to craft.))
P’au/Sh'zatrahr/Dar: Responses
Ruane: I think it would make the most sense to start with the body. Before we move it, we need to make sure we get adequate pictures for reference later. Sh'zatrahr, I’d like you to photograph the body and the scene. Then, we need to lay down markers at every item, and clue you can find. We’ll want to remove and examine many of the items in here.
::Ruane could already see a number of interesting items. A half-finished glass of something sat on the bedside table. Water? Something with a bit more kick? There were a number of datapads lying around too, what secrets did they hold? Getting all the data off them might require some help from their technically minded Andorian hybrid. Her sharp eyes and problem-solving abilities would be just as important as the rest of the team’s in putting this mystery together.::
Sh'zatrahr: Response
Ruane: P’au, Dar, I want you to do a preliminary examination of the body and tell me what you find.
::Ruane was keen to get the body to the lab, where they could keep it in a cold environment that would prevent further decomposition of the body. Since they had arrived in a timely fashion she didn’t expect it to be too big of an issue. It was really cold in this room. Had the hotel staff adjusted the temperature in a bid to preserve the scene? Had the diplomat changed it? Maybe there was a mechanical fault or third-party tampering. That was another nugget to chase up. She shivered and rubbed her hands together.::
Ruane: oO Even the Talaxian vessel was warmer than this. Oo
P’au/Dar: Responses
Ruane: Once the engineers report to me, we’ll be able to move the body to the lab to run more in-depth tests and analysis. I’ll help comb and process the scene for other clues that warrant further investigation.

Ruane: Well there’s no blood, and I don’t see any defensive wounds, bruises or trauma at a glance.
:: Dar nodded, then grabbed his Tricorder and started with a scan of the room and the victim. ::
Dar: There is no sign of any kind of violent entrance into the room nor do I detect any residuals that could be a sign of a transporter beam. I would suggest, that the victim received a visitor, opened the door and let his assassin in, without knowing what happened.
:: Dar paused a moment, checking his Tricorder again. ::
Dar: Then, the murderer did something, that called the attention of the diplomat. Likely, the victim was knowing what was going to happen next, given the expression on his face. The fact that there is no obvious sign of a fight, leads to the conclusion, that the victim was either caught by surprise and had no time to react or was murdered without being aware of it.
:: Dar went on and did some further scans, when Commander Ruane's voice interrupted his thoughts... ::
