((Ambassador's Quarters, USS Apollo - A))
:: Broken branches don't grow, they wither and die. Rune had fallen from her branch long ago. Perhaps if she had conformed and did what was expected, none of this would be happening. But it was too late to go back and change anything. ::
:: The doctor had been called away with more important things before telling Rune she could leave sickbay which was fine. She had already decided she was going to leave anyhow. There was no point staying when there was nothing left for them to do for her. ::
:: She had managed to avoid nearly everyone along the way back to her quarters. Not that there was anyone left who would stop her anyhow. Nikki was gone, Rune had made sure of that, pushing the doctor as far away as possible and destroying even their friendship. Kieran was gone, that was evident by the fact the Intel Officer had disappeared and not come to see how she was in sickbay. It was just as well. ::
:: As soon as she reached her quarters, she secured the door and took a sonic shower. Once clean, she dressed in a traditional Al-Leyan silk robe. It was the easiest to get into since she still didn't have full mobility in her right arm and shoulder. ::
:: Dimming the lights to 10%, she sat down at her desk. She blinked to adjust her vision, causing her normal amber colored eyes to appear to glow a soft silvery blue. There was a message from her former mentor, no doubt another attempt to manipulate her into returning to Leya-I. There was also a message from her mother, no doubt to do attempt the same. Ignoring both, she opened a new message and sat for a few minutes staring at the blank screen. ::
:: Her chest felt heavy and tight as she reached up to begin typing her message. ::
======
Fleet Captain Nicholotti,
After my recent away mission, I have come to realize I have fallen too far from my branch. I have failed this ship and the Federation. I, hereby, resign effectively immediately.
Respectfully,
Lieutenant Commander Rune Jolara
======
:: Rune read it again before taking a breath and hitting send. Another breath and she opened another new message. A single tear rolled down her face as she began to type. ::
======
Lieutenant Collim Kieran -
Kieran, I am sorry I have failed and disappointed you.
Rune
======
:: She hit send before she could change her mind. ::
:: With that done, Rune got up and walked into her bedroom. She'd always felt alone but not so much as she did at that very moment. It was suffocating and unbearable. Of course there were those who would say it wasn't true but it was. That fact made her decision only slightly easier. ::
:: Sitting down on the side of her bed, she pulled open the nightstand drawer and reached in to pull out a bottle. Her hands shook ever so slightly as she opened the bottle and emptied the contents into her hand. She drew in a breath, looking only briefly at the tiny pills before popping them into her mouth and swallowing. ::
:: She then laid down, rolling over onto her left side and closing her eyes. Hopefully sleep wouldn't be far behind. ::
