((OOC: A day or so after Captain Whittaker: Objects In Motion))

::Jarred sat behind his new desk, a desk he’d been the other side of many times before. He brushed his hand over the glossy black surface, as his thoughts turned to those distinguished officers who’d held the position before him, all of whom has since moved on, with his own first executive officer, Captain Brell, now commanding a ship of his own. As he sat there, he wondered where his own future lay. He’d already experienced what some could call a meteoric rise, a fact he still couldn’t believe, and wondered whether he had some form of guardian angel at Starfleet Command, wishing him on. It was for this reason that on a frequent basis Jarred re-read the ancient Greek tale of Icarus.::

::He glanced down at the computer and sighed. It was nearly time. He rose from his seat, and ordered a jug of ice cold water, along with two glasses from the replicator. It was a task that provided a daily reminder of Dairro, his colleague and confidant who had lost her life on Arndall. He grabbed the jug and poured himself a glass of water, condensation forming almost instantly. Replacing the jug, he wrapped his fingers around the ice cold glass, fingers that slid on the condensation for a brief second before regaining their grip, and momentarily raised it, a quick toast to his departed friend. Bringing the glass to his lips, he felt a chill run all the way down his throat, his head making an involuntary shake.::

::Moving back over to his desk, he was surprised when the chime rang, his eyes once again glancing to the time on his computer. His heart was already beginning to race and he felt his stomach tighten at the upcoming meeting.::

Thoran: oO Punctual as always. Oo

::He slid back into his chair, shifting his bum slightly in an attempt to make himself more comfortable.::

Thoran: Come in.

::The door slide aside, revealing the hulking form of Ferentis, a Pakhwa'thanh who Jarred had come to consider a friend, the pair often engaging in holodeck adventures together, along with Ben, Jarred’s pet dog.::

Ferentis: You asked to see me, sir.

::Jarred rose from his seat, gesturing towards one of the empty chairs.::

Thoran: Thank you for joining me Mr Ferentis. Please take a seat. Would you like a drink?

Ferentis: No thank you, sir.

::He looked to his friend, meeting the Pakhwa'thanh’s gaze. He could feel his hands begin to tremble.::

Thoran: I’m sure you can guess why i’ve called this meeting - the events on Arndall. I’ve given much thought on how to deal with your indiscretion, a matter which I apologise for taking so long.

Ferentis: Yes, sir- I understand.

::Jarred’s eyes fell to the desk for a moment. His heart was heavy. Ferentis had been a good friend to him, and his actions, though unlawful had saved their lives.::

Thoran: You’ve put me in quite the predicament Mr Ferentis.

::He turned around, hands clasped behind his back and gazed out of the window, let out a sigh, nostrils flaring as he did so. One of the perks of the new position was an office with a view. Beyond the glass lay the ancient Chon outpost, it’s green outerhull glimmering as the light caught it.::

::For several seconds he stood, wondering how best to approach the situation. Finally he turned back around and took his seat, leaning forward, arms resting on the desk.::

Thoran: You knowingly concealed a device of incredible power, a device which could have caused untold damage to this ship and her crew.

Ferentis: ?

Thoran: However, I have taken into consideration your actions on Arndall. Actions which I have no doubted saved our lives.

::His eyes flickered, the memory of Dairro stirring. Her body lay on the dirt covered floor in the Kam’Jahtae tunnels beneath Arndall, a floor that was slick with her blood. Feeling a wave of emotion, Jarred pinched the bridge of nose hoping, hoping to avert the tide that was building in the corners of his eyes.::

Ferentis: ?

Thoran: I also believe that you have learnt your lesson and I am confident that you will not make the same mistake again.

Ferentis: ?

::Looking to his friend, he met the Pakhwa'thanh’s gaze, a serious expression spread across Jarred’s face. It was time to set aside the friendship, to do his duty..::

Thoran: Mr Ferentis, consider this your one free pass. I do not expect to have this conversation, or similar, in the future.

Ferentis: ?
