((G’Renn’s Quarters - Deck 12, USS Blackwell))

((Time Index: The day after the party))

::Anath sat in her quarters, eating lunch. She had decided to try a salad based on Matopin rock fungus and had been pleasantly surprised. As she finished eating Bajoran instrumental music was gently playing in the background at a low volume. Everything was calm and peaceful, but something else was occupying her thoughts.::

G’Renn: =/\= Computer, locate Savok. =/\=

Computer: Savok is in his quarters.

::She had been thinking about when was the best time to talk to Savok about her decision in terms of their arranged marriage. Ever since her session with Lieutenant Commander Jolara she’d looked for the right opportunity. The party had really encouraged her to finally take that leap. Seeing Captain Whittaker move forward in his career and sitting with Commander Walker and Lieutenant James had reminded her about the positive effects of progress in life and healthy personal relationships.::

G’Renn: oO Here goes nothing… Oo

((Savok’s Quarters - Deck 9, USS Blackwell))

::Anath walked down the hallway, counting the room doors until she reached the quarters that Savok had been assigned to. When she reached out to ring the chime her hand froze in hesitation. Did she want to have this conversation now? Why not think on it a bit more? No, she’d thought long enough. Before she could second-guess herself for all eternity she pressed the door chime.::

::Savok was at his workstation in the corner of the room with a set of tools. In front of him were two pots, one filled with soil and the other containing an Idran hybrid. Already he had brushed off the roots and allowed the small tree to drain the excess water it had been given. The plant was incredibly sensitive to water. He still did not know who had almost killed the tree, but the damage was thankfully almost undone. As he prepared the soil in the original pot for the return of the hybrid the chime for his door rang.::

Savok: Enter.

::He continued his work while turning his head enough to see who was at the door. Standing outside in the corridor was Anath, dressed in a long blue robe of a casual Vulcan design. What an unexpected surprise.::

G’Renn: Hello Savok. Are you busy?

Savok: I am just repotting this Idran hybrid. Someone in the Botany Lab overwatered it. ::He turned his head to make eye contact with Anath:: Other than that I am not very busy. Why do you ask?

G’Renn: I was hoping to talk to you about something.

Savok: Very well. ::Savok set down his tools and gently set the plant back into its pot.:: Shall we sit down?

::Anath nodded quietly and followed him into the main room of the quarters. Before the two of them sat down she saw Savok approach the replicator.::

Savok: Computer, replicate one cup of jumja tea, hot. Would you like anything Anath?

G’Renn: Ginger tea please.

::Savok turned back to the replicator and slid his cup of jumja tea to one side so that the second cup of tea would not materialize within the first.::

Savok: Computer, additionally replicate one cup of ginger tea.

::He reached into the replicator and took the two cups over to the small living area. Anath took the cup of ginger tea he offered and sat down in a small fabric-covered chair that faced a sofa across a low table. He sat down across from her on the sofa and took a drink of tea before turning his focus to Anath.::

Savok: What would you like to talk about?

G’Renn: I’d like to talk about our betrothal.

::Now she had committed to the conversation. It was something that she had needed to do for a long time. Speaking with the counselor had been the first that she’d spoken to anyone about the issue at all. Her feelings were understandable, but keeping them bottled up didn’t help. All she had to do was talk and figure things out one way or the other. The issue had been unaddressed for too long.::

G’Renn: I really wasn’t expecting you to ever show up on the Blackwell. For a long time I’ve just been trying to forget about the fact that I just ran away and left the entire affair up in the air without an answer. Being in Starfleet was a great excuse for me to delay making a decision. I’m sorry about that.

Savok: It is alright. Such a decision is not easy to make under any circumstances, much less when the need to make that decision is not fully your doing.

G’Renn: It shouldn’t have been as hard a decision as I made it out to be. I realized that when I talked with one of the counselors about it. ::She took a sip of tea and thought back to her meeting with Counselor Jolara:: The question was never whether or not I love you. That much was never really in doubt. What I couldn’t figure out and what caused all my hesitation was questioning whether I could accept someone else setting the events in motion for me.

::From her words it sounded like she had been working to make up her mind for some time but had not yet been able to. Perhaps speaking to a third party was all that she really needed to do to help her decide either way. He could not even guess how much she had pondered the entire affair since she left Vulcan for Starfleet Academy.::

Savok: I take it that you have made that decision, then?

G’Renn: Yes I have.

::Anath stood up from the chair and sat down on the sofa next to Savok. She turned to look at him, making direct eye contact before she continued speaking.::

G’Renn: I don’t know if I would have made this decision without the arranged marriage or if I’m completely happy with the idea of such a commitment being partially out of my hands. What I do know is that I can’t think of anyone else I would rather have by my side through better or for worse than you. Few people understand me as well as you Savok.

Savok: Then you want to get married then?

G’Renn: Yes! Yes I do.

::Anath set her hand on top of Savok’s. Her index and middle fingers wrapped around his. With that contact the two sat together in silence, linked through touch telepathy. The two remained quiet for several moments as all the built up tension was finally released. Savok’s quarters were quiet until he spoke up at last.::

Savok: We have much to do to prepare a ceremony.

::Of course, it was straight to the logistics. That was what he did when he was excited about something. He would focus on the details and give the preparations all of his attention.::

G’Renn: ::With a slight smile:: I suppose that we do.

Savok: Assuming that we want to have a ceremony on the ship there will be arrangements to make. We will need to discuss things with the captain. There will be organizing the venue and ceremony, sending invitations, arranging transport for family members who wish to attend. We also need to talk about the type of ceremony you would like.

G’Renn: Well, let’s see. How do you feel about drums, ceremonial combat, and travelling the path to kal’Hyah?

::Savok raised an eyebrow. Could she actually be serious? He was a scientist and not at all skilled in combat, simulated or actual. Then there was the ceremony of kal’Haya. He had read about the ceremony before and did not see himself partaking in that.::

G’Renn: Kidding. ::Anath couldn’t help but laugh:: But I would like to incorporate some elements of Klingon culture into the wedding. I never want to shut out that half of me.

Savok: I would not wish for you to either. Your mixed Vulcan and Klingon heritage is what makes you unique.

::That sudden compliment caught her a little off guard and brought a smile to her face. She might not have wanted a full Klingon wedding, but she did want some kind of Klingon influence at her wedding. Already there were thoughts rushing through her head. The characteristics of a Klingon wedding that she could successfully blend with a Vulcan wedding.::

G’Renn: I love you Savok.

::There would be time to decide the finer details later. For now she was just happy that she had finally made the jump and said yes. The years of dancing around the issue were over.::
