((USS Blackwell, Conference Room 1))
::As so often happened in Akinor’s mind, he tended to compare everything to biological life systems. It was a mechanism he used in terms of problem solving and it had come in handy in previous occasions on the bridge, allowing him to offer solutions and ideas to problems that would not otherwise have occurred to him. Unfortunately, he was now thinking about transmission of disease through the waste process of animals, as if there weren’t enough thoughts and distractions in his cluttered mind already.::
Tu'Peq: If the robot had access to auxiliary control it could have masked its transmissions in the Atlantis's waste energy. It wouldn't be able to travel far but, knowing Starfleet transmission protocols, the Blackwell's power grid would have acted as a magnet for this robot's...virus.
Rhyn: Response
Zaekia: That’s something we’ll examine moving forward. Thank you for your insight. I think this has been a very productive discussion. I’d like to move on now and get an update from medical.
G’Renn: Response
Stennes/Ilsam: Response(s)
::The casualty report was significantly better than he had hoped. Of course they were never going to get through this without injuries and some were quite severe but things were certainly better than he’d feared. That was good. He was a little perplexed to hear that there was something else going on among the telepathic population. He could relate to what they were describing. He felt somewhat uplifted to know they were already aware of it. He was certain he would have been informed sooner too had they not had this issue with the helm.::
Zaekia: I have to say that does explain a few things and before you ask, yes I’ll be visiting sickbay directly after this meeting. For now, I’d like to hear a bit more about the details - how do the symptoms develop? How is it transmitted? What is your plan for dealing with it and how can we help?
G’Renn/Stennes/Ilsam: Response(s)
((OOC:Just moving things along so we can get the teams assigned and off on adventure))
Zaekia: We’ll ensure you have the resources you need. Here’s the plan - R’Ven, I want you to join Dr G’Renn and Mr Stennes and help them study and understand this virus. We need to eradicate this before anyone has a complete mental breakdown or suffers permanent brain damage. I’ll help in whatever way I can to that end as well.
::Hopefully acting in a greater capacity than mere lab specimen.::
R’Ven: Response
Zaekia: Mr Shayne, head down to engineering with Ms Yesna and Mr Thoran - I want this ship up to spec asap but more than that I want you to investigate this lead we’ve uncovered. If there’s a virus or something infecting our systems I want it purged asap. I understand there was a civilian aboard who pitched in during the crisis as well?
Yesna: Response
Zaekia: Well we need all hands on this so get her support as well.
Shayne: Response
::Zaekia was about ready to conclude the meeting with a couple of last announcements when Renos leaned forward in nir chair. Ne looked very much as though ne had something to say and even as he drew breath ne addressed the assembled officers.::
Renos: I’ll be heading down to the Burellion capital city of Chloretta to meet with Negrid, an individual we identified at the Consortium HQ as wanting our attention. He has something he’s desperate to tell us, and I believe it related to the Consortiu. This could be the big break we’ve been looking for. I’ll be taking Pandorn, Sarjak and Aquilina with me. I don’t want to spook him by approaching with unfamiliar faces.
Pandorn/Sarjak: Response(s)
Renos: We’re going to be stuck here for a number of hours while Starfleet and Consortium engineering teams work their magic. We might as well make the best of a bad situation and turn this to our advantage in any way possible. We still have an opportunity to explore, get to know the people of House Larokon, the people of Burellion and how they see themselves. What we learn here today might shape the way we approach diplomatic situations and build a better relationship with the people here in the future. That’s why I would like Mr Wilmer, Rhyn, Illsam and Tu’Peq to head to Chloretta. The cultural museum is said to be the finest in the region.
Wilmer: Response
Zaekia: Please be aware that teams travelling to Burellion outside of HQ property must go by shuttle. Burellion has strict transport regulations and are not in possession or transporter technology. They don’t trust it so you could say it has been effectively banned.
Wilmer: Response
::Everyone had their tasks to do. As much as Zaekia could have happily sat there and hashed things out in much finer detail any other day. He felt very much like he would slip into madness if he had to endure much more of the mental onslaught he was currently dealing with. It wasn’t lot on him how he had pined since being posted here for a telepathic friend he could speak to mentally. He needed to be able to exercise his abilities regularly to maintain control and develop them. If he could avoid being mentally stunted because of the fears and inhibitions of those with vastly different cultural views about their thoughts and feelings that would be the ideal situation for him. He couldn’t help but wonder if he’d have found all of this so much easier to cope with if he hadn’t been forced to exercise so much restraint since joining Starfleet as to become unaccustomed to something that had for hundreds of years been as easy and comfortable to him as breathing. Them again, continuing to think deeply about it all, he wondered if it wasn’t so much the people and their thoughts and emotions that were the problem so much as the effects of the illness on his ability to cope with it - in other words, were he free of the illness but still receiving the same sensory input - would he take it in his stride. He believed very strongly that he would.::
Zaekia: I really want to personally thank you all for your hard work. These are incredibly high pressure situations and as much as we train and we drill for it, nothing can truly, fully prepare you for the reality of it.
::The J’naii admiral couldn’t agree more and had to say something in support of that. Not wanting to hijack the meeting, ne kept it brief and sincere. The mood was hardly one for celebration but recognition was well earned and ne agreed about giving it.::
Renos: You’ve all performed exceptionally and when you get right down to it, it's because of you and the work of the collective crew that we’re here at all.
Zaekia: I’d like to recognise Ensigns Tu’Peq and Yesna in particular, for their exceptional work and dedication. You are both hereby promoted to the rank of Ensign and granted the relevant rights and privileges that go with it. Congratulations.
Tu’Peq/Yesna: Responses
R’Ven/Shayne/Anyone: Responses
Zaekia: With Commander Rhyn arriving to take up the post of Chief Tactical Officer, Mr Thoran will be able to concentrate specifically on security as the department’s permanent chief.
Rhyn/Thoran: Response(s)
R’Ven/Shayne/Anyone: Responses
::Captain Zaekia stood up, indicating he was about ready to bolt for the exit. He had learned a lot from this valuable meeting, organised his teams and recognised some really outstanding work. He was certain that was all of this was put behind them there would be more recognition - more promotions and some awards. Ensign Yesna and Dr G’Renn were both well on their way to chief roles and there were other officers who had caught his eye for various reasons too. For now, they needed to get to the business of setting everything right again.::
Zaekia: Thank you everyone. Dismissed.
Renos: Thank you captain. Those in my team - grab your away kits and meet me in the shuttlebay.
Pandorn/Sarjak/Aquilina: Responses
::Akinor remained where he was, allowing everyone else to pile out of the room. He couldn’t remember having felt such a strong sense of sweet relief for a long time.::
