LtCmdr Jarred Thoran - Making Excuses (DS26)

((Holosuite 1, Recreation Deck 2, Deep Space 26))

Thoran: Back in a moment then.

::Jarred headed off, this time in the direction of the bar. He needed something a little stiffer. Guiding his way through the crowd to the bar, he stumbled upon another friendly face.::

Thoran: Lieutenant Mandak, should have know i’d find you at the bar.

Mandak: Gah, it's not that bad is it? :: She winked :: Alright it is...

::Jarred gave the woman a wide smile.::

Thoran: Stolen any more drinks lately?

Mandak: Stolen is a rather harsh word sir... He didn't try to refute it now did he?

:: He let out a chuckle before tilting his head slightly and with raised eyebrows, Jarred shot the newly assigned intelligence officer a look that said “really?”::

Thoran: Okay, he didn’t outwardly refuse. However, i’m not sure he did have much choice in the matter did he?

Mandak: Perks of being a girl. :: She undid the collar of her coat, and the rest of the coat buttons, but left it on. :: I'm really glad you're the new XO... Congrats.

::For a second, his eyes dropped to the floor, before he looked back at Mandak, his cheeks raised and his lips pressed together into an embarrassed smile.::

Thoran: Thank you.

::He didn’t know what else to say. Jarred had always been considered a modest man, never shouting his achievements or chasing praise. He recalled his own surprised at being offered the position of executive officer after Adyr’s swift recall to Starfleet Command. He’d expected that Shayne, the ship’s second officer would have taken over, but that hadn’t happened, a mystery he was still to discuss with the man.::

Mandak: Would you care for something?

::Pausing for a moment, Jarred considered the offer. He’d gotten a taste for this drink the captain had provided, but he now he felt like something stronger. Unfortunately it would have to wait, he had a matter to attend to first.::

Thoran:  I’m going to pass on this occasion Ms Mandak. I’ve left Ben alone for quite some time now, so i’m just going to sneak out and quickly check up on him. 

::He bid the woman fair well before snaking his way through the crowds and out into the much cooler air of the promenade. There was only a few people milling around out here, mostly guests of Captain Whittaker. The air was refreshing and helped perk Jarred up a little as he made his way through the station back to the Blackwell.::
