The EMH reached for a nearby PADD, and tapped it a few times.

EMH: ::looking at PADD:: Here.  You may need this…

After finding on the PADD’s screen what he was looking for, he outstretched his arm to hand the PADD seemingly to Kiani…

… before reaching past him and handing the PADD to Lieutenant Hopper.  Sure enough, the cover of edition 128 entitled “T’Senara and the Gates of Gre’thor” was on the screen.

EMH: …it will help you to relax.

Hopper: You’ve got to be kidding me.

The Tactical officer had a look at the PADD.

Moore: Not a bad choice.

The EMH raised his eyebrows, then nodded towards Moore while looking at Lieutenant Hopper, as if to say, “see?”

Hopper: Excuse me! I thought I was the one on drugs here…  ::To Kiani::  Doctor, I’ve been shot and there is a hole in my body and the effectiveness of that Bicaridine is quickly wearing off – as is my patience.

The EMH nodded, in violent agreement with the patient’s last two facts.   Hopper took the PADD from the EMH’s hand, before handing it to Moore.

Hooper: Here. Go wild.

Kiani: That's all well, but we should get her prepped for surgery.

The EMH looked at Kiani, and then once again nodded.

((Later…))

The EMH, “dressed” in a surgical gown and holding his hands in the air with his fingers apart like he had just prepped for surgery, watched as Moore left, before walking towards the Medical Officer and Hopper.

Hopper: ::Almost silently::  Noooo…

EMH: ::Deadpan:: There is nothing to be afraid of, Lieutenant.  This is the first time I’ve done this, and I believe strongly in beginner’s luck.

Kiani: EMH, please administer the Anetrizine to Lt. Hopper while I have a chat with her.

The EMH turned to Kiani and gave him a nod.

EMH: Of course, Ensign.

He moved sideways to prep a hypospray while listening to the conversation.

Kiani: ::moving closer to Hopper, who lay on the biobed:: Hello. I know this isn't the best of times, but I realized that I haven't made a proper introduction as yet. I'm Ensign Harrison Kiani.

With the hypospray prepped, the EMH moved towards the patient who was looking at him with a now all too familiar glare.

Hopper: Anetrizine? Is that really necessary – uhh, ::looking at him momentarily:: Mister, or, um, Doctor Kiani?

The EMH shrugged momentarily, it was absolutely necessary.  As Kiani spoke, The EMH reached over and administered the hypo to Lieutenant Hopper’s neck.

Kiani: Look, I'm not going to lie. Your prosthetic has suffered severe damage. Despite not hitting most major control points, such cases often lead to the patient needing a new replacement. But considering our current situation. I shall wave such a precaution until we return to the station. Where a physical therapist may determine our next steps.

Hopper: ::Furrowing her brow::  A replacement?

The EMH watched sympathetically as the Lieutenant looked down to her prosthetic leg.  He wondered if she had an attachment to it, and also how he could fit that punny joke into a medical journal article.

Hopper: Yes. No. Just… whatever we can do to patch things up, make it work for now. I’ll find someone who can fix it properly when we get back. Replacing it… Replacing it is not an option.  ::Looking back and forth between Kiani and the EMH::  Do whatever it takes – and, uh, let me know what I can do.

Kiani: All you have to do is sit back, relax and maybe read that comic EMH gave you. It seemed interesting.

The EMH watched on interest as Lieutenant Hopper looked over to the PADD, hoping silently that she she would take it and read it.

Which she did.

EMH 1, Hopper 0.

((Later Later…))

But it wasn’t an outright win, because Hopper had flicked the comic like it was some sort of boring science report.  That didn’t phase the EMH though, the program offered to read it to Robin.

And read it he did.  In his golden baritone voice.  While “wearing” scrubs.

EMH: ::Lifting finger, reading from comic:: … The concept of Gre’thor is illogical, J’horgh, and yet I stand at these gates.  And I will rescue the prisoners… ::licking finger, before swiping PADD to next page:… I have sworn an oath.  Yes, T’Senara, never a truer word spoken.

Kiani: And what happened next? Did she capture the bioterrorist Spalov?!

EMH: Well, I could tell you… but I think you should also read it, Ensign.  But let’s just say, Doctor T’Senara has her ways ::wink::.

Hopper: ::Mildly-distressed grimace::  Doctor Kiani, am I correct in asserting that you’re nearly finished?

Kiani: Uh..Y-yes. ::announcing to no one in particular:: Applying the next microsuture, just above the left soleus.

The EMH put the PADD back down, given it was time for him to rejoin the surgical procedure again.  He handed Kiani an instrument to help with the last of the stitches to seal up the laceration.

Kiani: I think we're done here. Didn't take that long now, did it?

Hopper: Long enough.  ::To Kiani::  Thank you, though. I can’t imagine having to sit the rest of this mission out. I owe you one, Ensign.

The EMH nodded to Kiani to commend him on his work, then looked over at Hopper.

EMH: ::Clears throat:: And you’re welcome.

Eventually, Hopper gave him a nod of appreciation.  oO There… now that wasn’t so hard, was it. Oo

Kiani: Alright. The nurse will come in now to give you further information about recovery. I would suggest taking some time in one of the quarters for now. You're not needed at the bridge at this moment.

Hopper: I guess dancing is off the table for now…  I’ll, um, try to take it easy.

EMH: Like T’Senara says ::leaning forward with hypo:: – “just lay back and relax, while I save the galaxy”.

As he noticed Hopper rolling her eyes, he administered the hypo of anaesthetic to Hopper’s thigh.  There was a “squeak” of concern from Robin, which the EMH acknowledged.

He gave her one final nod, put the hypo back into its container, grabbed the comic PADD, then moved over to take a seat on an isolated biobed.

It was time to read edition 134 of his favourite comic series – “T’Senara and the Gorns from Subspace”

[End Scene!]
