((((Turbolift - Amity Outpost))
Wong: =/\=I managed to get a scan of those creatures and I can say that this is the most… uh…. Cursed combination of DNA I have ever seen. I see tribble, Cardassian vole, and a third unknown species.=/\=
Whatever that species was, it was compatible with both tribbles AND the voles.
Ikaia saw the lights flickering again. And he could swear the turbolift was slowing down. Or at least, he never remembered it being this slow.
Saavei: =/\= Lieutenant Wong, we are attempting to keep the lift operational. Power is intermittent. If you remove the maintenance panel in the lift, you may be able to augment power with your scanner battery =/\=
He raised an eyebrow. That was certainly not good news.
Wong: ::Muttering:: We get one storm and the place is absolutely falling apart….
With a sigh, he opened up the maintenance panel and set it to the side.
Wong: =/\=Alright. Just give me some time here and I should have this lift working soon.=/\=
He started pulling the battery out of his tricorder. At least temporarily, he wouldn’t have his tricorder until the turbolift made it to the top. He was met with an unsettling silence as no one else spoke to him over the comms. But it gave him time to think. Reflect. If no one else was talking, he could freely talk to himself, right? He was the only other person in the lift with him.
Wong: Well. This is a fine predicament, isn’t it? Death by turbolift if you don’t get this working. Death by radiation if you don’t get this working. But you know - death by transporter isn’t fun either. Not that I have an issue with transporters. But I have a very strong objection to being transported in the middle of a storm.
He fiddled the battery into place.
Wong: Well okay. Death is in the cards and so is transporter clones. ::A beat:: Oh hell no! I don’t want to get Ukinix’d in one of those things!
Ikaia recalled the time Ukinix got split into two entirely different people. A situation that felt at least a little similar to this.
Wong: I really don’t want to think of the monster that would pop out of a transporter if I got split into two people. My other half has got to be half Borg and half…. Huh…. actually yeah. Monster for sure.
Saavei: Responses
Ikaia tested the battery in the lift and it started moving. That was a good sign.
Wong: =/\=Good news! I have the lift working. Well at least for now….=/\=
He put the cover back on.
Saavei: Response
And now he waited for the turbolift to take him to the top. Or at least he was GOING to wait when he heard a familiar sound. He looked down at his hands and the sled in front of him. The familiar blue sparkles were enveloping him and that’s when he knew - he was being transported.
Wong: Oh nononono! You idiot!
Ikaia felt himself holding his breath in absolute fear. And soon the surroundings of the turbolift were exchanged for….
((Robin Hoppers Apartment - Beijing District - Amity Outpost))
Ikaia had been to Hopper’s apartment a few times. But he had never seen it in this state before. It was less of an apartment and more of a makeshift bridge or in his opinion - organized chaos. If he weren’t so distracted, he’d have hoped that they were taking good care of her apartment and that it would be returned in the state that they had found it. But the distraction in question was himself. He touched his face before checking behind him.
Saavei: Response
Moore: Not today! Satan!
Vanlith: Shutting down the turbolift now.
Thankfully, there was no transporter monster that had spawned behind him.
Wong: Who…… who did this….?!
Saavei: Response
Moore: Sorry. Got a little excited… Oh hey Wong?! When did you get here?
Wong: Well, I haven’t been here long. In fact, I just arrived.
Rosek-Skyfire: Are you good, Doctor? Any injuries?
Wong: As good as one could be being transported in the middle of a storm.
Thankfully, no accidents OR transporter monsters. Whoever beamed him in, it wasn’t just the fact that it was a storm but a breach of his trust. Someone didn’t listen to him in a very personal way and that made him feel very uneasy. But he needed to focus. He could sort through his feelings later. He unpacked the crate, and started readying hypos.
Rosek-Skyfire: ::nods:: Can you start with the others? It usually takes longer for radiation to affect me anyway. I can keep working on power redistribution in the meantime.
Wong: Alright. But I’m not skipping you either. Everyone here needs to, for a more interesting turn of phrase - take their medicine.
And with that, he walked over to Saavei with hypo in hand.
Wong: Okay, Saavei? I’ll start with you if that’s okay with you?
Rosek-Skyfire: ::to Saavei and Vanlith:: How’s it looking over there?
Vanlith: Degradation has improved slightly but I would recommend moving turbolifts to minimal power and shutting down the ones we no longer need.
Saavei: Responses
Rosek-Skyfire: Good. I’ll transfer a bit of the turbolift power to the delivery system to ensure we get full coverage of the cargo hold. ::to Kaito:: Did we get them all?
Moore: At least the ones around the doctor. ::He motioned towards Wong:: And various others we could detect, but I think we got them.
Rosek-Skyfire: Good work, Lieutenant. We should give one more decent sweep before we move on, though.
Moore: Agreed, Commander. If what was scanned is right, and they are part tribble… which there are really only two parts of tribbles, eating and… mating… so if they breed like tribbles then we have a problem, because one tribble can produce about ten babies every… twelve hours… Just one could breed over fourteen thousand in two days.
Moore: We’re looking at getting overrun if we don’t stop them.
Vanlith: We are going to need a more permanent solution than this in the long run.
Ikaia pressed the hypo into Saavei’s neck. Now it was Moore’s turn. He walked over to him with a fresh hypo
Wong: Alright, it’s your turn, Moore. Just relax….
He pressed the hypo into Moore’s neck next.
Wong: The genetic combination is tribble and Cardassian vole which is bad enough as they are both prolific breeders with voracious appetites. But I’m also very concerned about the third species involved that’s been crossbreeding with both. I don’t know what that is yet. Nor have I seen the third species.
Saavei/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses
Moore: My question is where did they come from? Why are they here, and showing up now? Surely we would have detected them before the storm?! I know internal sensors should have flagged the damage they’re doing?
Vanlith: I have to agree, from what the scans found and transported there are more here than anyone would like already. But nothing has come up in routine repairs and checks to indicate anything like this here. Wong you said these were Jansens? Some pet noone knows about?
Ikaia cycled to a fresh hypo and walked over towards Vanlith.
Wong: Orrey mentioned that he thought they were more like weasels but they aren’t specifically his. He was only the second to see them and the first to call them weasels. If we had to say who was first more accurately, it was Aitas. And she discovered them headed towards engineering. Your turn, Vanlith…
And he pressed a hypo into her too.
Saavei/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses
Moore: Well, I know this won’t be popular, and I might get the couch suggesting it, but that’s the life of a Tactical Officer. If this gets out of hand, and we missed any… then we’ll have to exterminate them, because this is a lose-everything level of disaster as they literally eat us out of home… if we didn’t get all of them. Assuming they reproduce like tribbles.
Ikaia grimaced at the idea as he pressed the hypo into Vanlith. He wasn’t a fan of mass exterminating life like that either. But there had to be some way to contain them, right?
Vanlith: We either need answers right now on the reproduction rate and damage they do or we have to assume the worst. I don’t like it but it really is the only reasonable choice.
Wong: The fastest method is the one Moore suggested. But the most humane method would be mass sterilization or birth control. But we would need to come up with a gaseous compound that could do that quickly.
Saavei/Moore/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses
Vanlith: Wong, you said that the voles were in main engineering? And that they were causing damage?
Ikaia nodded before cycling to Rosek-Skyfire’s hypo. He had marked this one off with bright canary yellow bands on the end so he could tell it apart from the rest.
Wong: That’s where they were first seen. They were gravitating in that direction.
He looked towards the commander and walked up to her with hypo in hand.
Wong: As promised, you’re the last one here. Time for you too.
Saavei/Moore/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses
Vanlith: ::to Lael:: Commander, I know main engineering has had everything possible shut down but having the generators online is fundamental for us to do that. If the voles had been in engineering before they were transported out they could have started to do damage. Not enough for it to be noticeable but enough for it to be impacting this. Our power issues might not just be the storm now but the storm and the damage the voles have done. I don’t think we will know unless someone goes down there. Or well I go down there. It makes more sense for yourself and Ensign Saavei to remain here for this work.
He pressed the last hypo into the commander. That was everyone inoculated here. He sealed up the crate and strapped it to his back. This was only one stop of many he was going to have to make before the worst of the storm were to arrive. He went to the portable replicator to set it up.
Wong: I’ve seen those voles up close. If I had to take a guess, they at least inherited their hatred of Klingons from their tribble half.
Which meant he was also going to have to warn Iko just in case tribbles didn’t like her very much either.
Saavei/Moore/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses
Vanlith: In and out as quickly as possible. I trust that I can either fix the problem, or bring the backups online and turn it off to prevent the energy issues from remaining as severe as they are. ::Pausing and taking a breath:: And Commander if we are agreed on terminating the voles I think it best someone who is a good shot comes with me. If possible could I request Lieutenant Moore, we have previously worked well on engineering issues under high pressure and he is an exceptional shot.
Ikaia knew that he was going to have to take his leave soon as well before the storm really closed in.
Wong: I’m going to have to take off soon as well. I still have some teams out there who haven’t gotten their doses yet.
Such as the sciences team which is where he needed to head to next.
Saavei/Moore/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses
Once Ikaia was satisfied with how the portable replicator was setup. He got up to his feet.
Wong: There. Now you should be able to have your coffee at any time or well…. Anything else you need, really.
Saavei/Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith: Responses
Wong: The portable replicator is good for about 5,000 replications on a single charge. But I don’t recommend using all 5,000 at once. I strongly suggest being sparing with it.
Saavei/Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith: Responses
Wong: In the meantime, I really need to go check on that sciences team before the storm really hits and I lose my opportunity. And please - no transporters. I don’t want to be beamed anywhere during the storm.
