((Transporter Room 1 - USS Kepler))
She sat docile in the Kepler’s tractor beam, this strange not-Enterprise. Shrouded by the beam’s light, she seemed regal, even elegant. But the reality was the ship was carrying one hell of an issue inside of her.
And that wasn’t even getting into the rest of the issue. Taelon was deeply glad he’d not been put on the diplomatic teams; Voyager was a difficult topic for him, and whatever side effects this cultural mimicry was having would be hard for him to not blame on the source, at least a bit.
He’d been an admirer of Janeway, in childhood. How could he not be? She’d led her tiny ship through the oh-so-dangerous Delta Quadrant, fought and hurt the Borg, and gotten home intact. From the outside, it was a classic underdog story.
Then he’d joined Starfleet, matured, and seen the full story. And…Janeway and her crew weren’t quite so heroic to him, now.
He tried to brush away that cloud of doubt as he headed to the Kepler’s transporter to room. The rest of the team ought to be waiting, and so he rushed, ARIA trailing behind him. Inside waited Iko and Saavei.
Taelon: My apologies, I - I was making sure…::He trailed off, and shook his head as if to clear it.:: Nevermind. I’m ready to go, Commander.
Iko/Saavei: Response
He ran a hand over his head, mussing up his hair.
Taelon: We’ll be meeting their representative on the other side, then?
Iko/Saavei: Response
Taelon looked to the transporters and hesitated. Going in in just their normal uniforms seemed unwise, depending on the nature of the issue. But if that was what they thought was best…
Taelon: Any…last minute things to note, Commander? Before we’re in mixed company…?
This whole situation was terribly odd; this UAW was Federation-like, in theory. Perhaps they’d even worked out a few of the kinks in the Federation’s systems. But it was hard not to see it as a funhouse mirror of the Federation - and they didn’t know all the places it was different just yet.
Iko/Saavei: Response
