((Shuttlebay 4, The Cellar, Amity Outpost))

With the ‘ice’ properly broken in Robin’s opinion, she had decided it was time to broach the sensitive subject of Nathan Richards’ recent trauma, and the scars he now bore – chief among them, the temporary prosthetic arm he had been fitted with. After learning how it had happened, she wanted him to know that he wasn’t alone.

Hopper: Also, you know, if you ever want someone to talk to about the arm – someone with a little experience in that department… ::Knocking on her own primarily-aluminum prosthetic leg:: …It’s been a long time, but I kind of get it.

Richards: Is yours… from an accident? Or…

Hopper: ::Shaking her head:: No, I’ve had it ever since I can remember. Had to amputate when I was born. Nothing like your experience. ::shrugging:: But I still know what it’s like having one, learning to cope with the difference.

Nathan nodded.

Richards: You know… ::smiling:: I think I will hold you to that.

Robin smiled, glad to find that the two of them were getting along so well. Frankly, she didn’t see why Fuhral Ygrix had found Richards and his shuttle so off-putting – and Kivik’s assessment of him seemed a little shallow, if accurate. She could already see a lot of depth to the man, and he was so open to sharing it… she felt a familiar connection with that energy.

oO Well, Furahl’s loss is my gain, I guess! Oo

Hopper: ::smiling:: Alright, well, why don’t we try to get some work done while we’re here today, hmm? Judging by the state of things I think I’ll have to be back at least tomorrow – plus I’ll be splitting my time between this and another project…

Richards: Another project? The have you busy already, don’t they?

Hopper: It’s good to be in high-demand!

Nathan picked up the PADD and shook his head, but he continued smiling. Robin watched him with interest. She wondered what he’d look like without the several-days-growth of scruffy beard…

Richards: So, what do you think the next stage should be? I feel like propulsion and weapons should be toward the bottom of the list. I just don’t know where to go from here.

Hopper: Hmm?  ::Snapping out of her brief daydream::  Oh!  ::Blushing slightly::  Yes. Totally. Let’s, umm, tackle systems based on generation. We’ve got some overrides worked out for the PA system. If there’s anything else running the same software, updating that will be relatively easier…

Robin looked at her PADD and the list of components Richards had indicated were loaded into the shuttle.

Hopper: Looks like the next closest thing is the replicators.  ::Shrugging::  Hey if it works out, we can have ourselves some celebratory Romulan ales or something.

Richards: Sounds good. I believe I already have those wired in correctly. If something doesn’t look right while you are working your magic, let me know and I can hit it with a hammer or something.

Hopper: Why? Where are you going to be?

Richards: I have some more installation steps to perform on the Warp Cores. I will be right back here, shout if you need me.

Hopper: Well, that just puts me in charge of the playlist then.  ::Tapping away at her PADD with a playful smile::  I’ll cue up a few more – what did you call my ‘classics’? “Oldies”? Hmmph.

She looked over her shoulder and grinned at Nathan before turning back to the PADD and starting to work on applying the same updates to the replicator system’s back-end systems as she had done with the comm PA’s. It was slow work, but she enjoyed the methodical nature of it – and it meant she could enjoy the music while she worked. As ABBA’s “Honey Honey” came on next, she started to hum along with the familiar tune.

Hopper: ::Pausing her humming for a moment::  You’re awfully quiet back there… I was expecting a lot more ‘banging’...

Richards: Response

Hopper: You know..  ::spinning around in her chair, still tapping away at her PADD::  ..hitting things with your hammer.

Richards: Response

Hopper: Okay, well, if you need me to pass you anything, let me know. Though you’ll probably have to tell me which one’s the hyperspanner and which one’s the coil spanner. Meanwhile, try not to get too thirsty.

Richards: Response

Hopper: Waiting for the replicator to get fixed. It’s going to be a while before we get those Romulan Ales – and I think someone re-programmed this thing to produce pink cupcake instead of water…  ((OOC – search for ‘cupcake’ on the Amity GG if you are curious!))  Weird. I’m just going to erase it and start fresh.

With that, she returned to her humming.

Richards: Response

((Several Hours Later))

The afternoon had come and gone and it was quickly getting into ‘evening’ time – at least for Robin’s duty shift. Pretty soon she was going to have to call it quits and take off for dinner at the Vataixs’. And before that, she’d need to go home and change – after all, she couldn’t go to dinner at the Ambassador’s house wearing her duty uniform – and then she’d need to meet up with Ikaia at the train station.

If only the replicators would work.

Hopper: Okay… I think I’m ready for you to hit something.

Richards: Response

Hopper: ::A little frustrated::  My PADD. I can’t figure it out. I’ve identified all the SPOFs and written code to override them – but for some reason it’s still giving me an error when I try to run the updated OS. It must be some sort of hardware issue – but that’s your department.

Richards: Response
