Wong: But you. It’s been a while since I last saw you! How have you been?
Robin watched with cheerful intrigue as Ikaia began his work. Only passingly familiar with most of the gadgets at his disposal, she enjoyed trying to guess what each one’s purpose and name were as they whirred around her.
Hopper: Oh boy. Well, let’s see… As you know, I received my placement orders aboard the Wall Street. I’ll admit it – that was a lucky break. Lieutenant Montgomery really knows her stuff – oh, she’s the Chief Science Officer. I feel like I learned nearly as much there, in two years of field work, as I did in my four years at the Academy!
Wong: Sounds like you had a great match up! You really lucked out, Robin. Ah… I can honestly say I’m a little envious.
Robin teasingly scoffed at him, waving a hand dismissively and scrunching up her face in mock-disbelief.
Hopper: I’m sure serving on the Veritas was similar. Being assigned to the Shoals kind of seems like being ‘thrown in the deep end’ to me! ::Noting Ikaia working:: So, how am I looking, Doc? Any weird parasites or alien tech implants I should be aware of?
Ikaia looked up from his scans at Hopper.
Wong: Nothing from what I can see so far. Everything looks normal to me. You still look like you!
Robin nodded and Ikaia resumed the routine scans.
Hopper: Do you keep up with Alieth much? I hear from her now and then, but we’re both so busy – well, I’m sure you know. You’re probably even busier.
She’d always suspected that the two of them were an item – though had never confirmed such during their Academy days. Alieth was, predictably, hard to get a read on at times, and Robin had never been quite close enough to outright ask him if there was any truth to her suspicions. But they had been near-inseparable at times… and she still wondered.
Wong: Heh. Now that you mention it, we actually did a cross ship Christmas exchange last year. I sent her a blanket knit with my whole arms! And she sent me a rather large shell. If I put my ear up to it, you can almost hear the ocean.
Hopper: Aww, you guys are so cute… I wonder how that Anthurium I gave her two years ago is doing. ::Grinning:: I should drop her a comline and ask.
Wong: I do miss how we used to get together from time to time back at the Academy. With all of us on different postings, we’re all so spread out.
Hopper: ::Poking Wong on the shoulder:: Well, less so now! Now you and I can get to know each other a bit better, hmm? Once I get my quarters sorted out I’ll have you over – Ooo, or maybe I’ll throw a ‘housewarming party’ or something!
Robin hardly noticed as Wong folded up his tricorder and slid it into his lab coat pocket. Her mind was now on what sort of music she’d play at her inevitable housewarming party.
Wong: Sorry for the small interruption here. But how’s the leg these days? Anything I should know about?
Hopper: Hmm? Oh, this old thing? ::Tapping the lightweight durable casing of her prosthetic leg – the sound slightly muffled by her uniform tights:: Nothing I’m not used to. It doesn’t like prolonged periods of extension… You know, like standing at attention or certain yoga poses… but that doesn’t trouble me too much.
Wong: Response
Hopper: I do my own routine maintenance on this thing, for the most part – but I do occasionally have to get it serviced. I guess I’ll need to find a new person for that out here. ::Shrugging, a slight chuckle:: Or I’ll need to get a spare and ship it off for repairs.
Wong: Response
Hopper: I’m kidding. You know how much of a hassle this thing is to remove? It’s not due for major service for a few years anyways. Meantime, I’ll stick to my regimen of occasional tweaks and plenty of dancing to keep it working smoothly.
Wong: Response
Hopper: Hey – speaking of which, assuming my scans are all good, where’s a good place to go dancing around here? ::Excited, wide-eyed:: Also, what are you up to tonight?! Do you want to get out and do something, for old time’s sake?
Wong: Response
