Who the hell was ringing the doorbell now? It was her day off, and she hadn't invited anyone over or ordered any freshly cooked food. If it was that property manager hoping for a bonus for his already fulfilling work, she'd chase him to the eternal hunting grounds.

Luckily, she was already dressed in black silk capri pants and a cozy black-and-white striped long-sleeved top.

But when she pressed the door opener and saw who was standing there, she was visibly surprised.

Varati: ::surprised:: Wil, eeh, Commander Ukinix?! Ensign …?

Ukinix: Ensign Varati! Have I caught you at a bad time?

Yes, no, naturally! Anyone who dropped by unannounced caught her at a bad time. Only Wil could ask such a question.

Varati: Uh, no… What brings me the honour of your visit?

Ukinix: Allow me to introduce Ensign Saavei, who’s just been assigned to Amity as our newest Ensign. She’ll be your new roommate.

Saavei: Live long and prosper, Ensign Varati ::she greeted her Orion roommate with the traditional hand gesture:: I just arrived from the Rangoon.

Yes, she'd heard there would be quite a few new faces on Amity. It would be nice if that didn't just apply to the upper ranks, but also to the lower decks.

D’Cyra tried to return the salute correctly, but she couldn't spread her ring and little fingers together, so the Vulcan salute turned into a normal wave.

Varati: ::to Saavei:: Hello and welcome onboard Amity Outpost, Ensign Saavei! Live long and prosper too! ::to Wil: sullen gaze::

Couldn't he or someone else have informed her? Then she would have at least cleaned up (and already cleared out the other part of the apartment, where there were still some unpacked moving boxes lying around).              oO Here I go again… Oo

Ukinix: I’ll let you two get acquainted. ::turning to Saavei:: Ensign Saavei welcome to Amity, you’re going to enjoy it. ::Nodding instead of offering his hand:: I look forward to seeing you around! ::To D’Cyra, smile:: I’ll see you around too, Ensign.

Saavei: Thank you, sir. ::And in what was probably a very expected thing now... :: Live long and prosper.

And with that, Wil said goodbye to the two of them and went his way.              oO Just wait, there's going to be repercussions, my dear CO. Oo

Varati: Bye, Commander Ukinix.

Saavei: I come bearing gifts, if you enjoy Vulcan coffee?

Poor Saavei was standing at the door, like a snatch of junk. But after six weeks of flying and absolute uncertainty about what awaited her out there, the reluctance was only too understandable. And especially so for the otherwise stoic Vulcans. Niev (although not a Vulcan) and Aitas' father, Sakon, had recently outdone themselves in this, almost driving D’Cyra to despair.

Varati: ::inquisitive:: Real, fresh coffee? Real beans and all that? Nice! But please come in first. The hallway out here really isn't that comfortable.

She smiled at Saavei, took a step to the side, and made an inviting gesture toward the apartment.

Saavei: Response

Varati: So... I'll show you the apartment first! But don't tell anyone that it was actually a mining manager's loft.

And with that, she pulled Saavei into the apartment and showed her her little kingdom.

From the outside and even in the entrance area, the apartment looked quite small. Only the short hallway contained the usual Starfleet wardrobes (which, of course, were already fully packed). Behind it, the room opened into a kind of gallery-like reception/dining/living area. There was no sign of Starfleet interiors here.

When D'Cyra arrived on Amity, almost the entire crew was on shore leave on Santo Domingo II. Instead of regular accommodations, she didn't waste a second asking the property manager for her own apartment. After the horrific events surrounding Frontier Day, several residents had left Amity for the time being. And so the manager was happy to rent out at least one of the larger (and more expensive) apartments. With a few bribes, er, business gifts, the formalities were quickly circumvented. And so, for a cigar box full of gold pressed latinum, D'Cyra was given a loft that extended over several levels.

The shared living area featured a large, delicately crafted table made of dark tropical wood in the center. The surrounding chairs were the opposite: modern designs, futuristic, white and beige plastic moulded parts. Along the inside of the side walls to the right and left of the hallway were heavy sofas, oversized two-seaters made of cozy dark brown fabric. On the sides and opposite the sofas were small, delicate tables and shelves filled with real books and colourful (real!) flowers and vines, in a style comparable to the oriental/Asian colonial style of Earth. Behind it, the open room extends to the narrow, column-like windows

On the right side, a classic spiral staircase led down and up. Next to it was a small kitchenette equipped with every conceivable kitchen appliance, a small storage room, and a guest toilet.

The central living area was bordered at the front by a wide railing, behind which the room opened up over three levels to the artificial windows, which were shaded to varying degrees by traditional roller shutters.

Upstairs, D'Cyra had made herself comfortable. A large bedroom offered ample built-in wardrobes, a workstation (also a delicate wooden desk), and a queen-size bed with several dozen pillows. The en-suite bathroom even offered a full-size shower in addition to the sonic shower.

The basement was similarly furnished, but was still largely empty except for D'Cyra's moving boxes.

Varati: So, what do you say? Is it bearable here? ::broad grin:: Okay, I still need to put away my junk and empty the wardrobes. ::pause:: As you can see, we have a proper kitchen! So if you like cooking yourself, I'll clear out a few cupboards there too. Ah, all we need is a proper coffee maker! Let's see where we can find one...

Saavei: Response

But she wasn't finished with her tour and planning yet...

Varati: … And if you want to decorate it like home or according to your own wishes, the craftsman who helped me is a true artist! For some fresh coffee and latinum, he'll remodel everything for us. I thought the wood panelling and the slatted closet doors, like those found in tropical regions, were a thousand times more beautiful than the Starfleet design. ::pause::

Saavei: Response

Varati: Okay, I think that's it for now. Just settle in for a bit... enjoy a real shower and help yourself to anything in the kitchen. Do you still have any moving boxes? We should check them right away... I've been missing one for nine months! ::pause:: But okay, I'll leave you alone for now. If you need anything, I'll be upstairs.

Saavei: Response
