Wong: How about we be careful and DON’T destroy this? I don’t even know what this is yet! It could either be mostly harmless, or I’ll be joining Nathan in the “missing an arm” club….
Iko: Where's a bloody tricorder?
Orrey: What did you do with yours? ::starting to open his pack::
She'd actually remembered hers just after asking for one, but was already so pivotally focused she hadn't bothered looking for one herself.
Wong: Well, there’s mine right on the des—agh!
Bec took Wong's arm in one hand, and a tricorder in the other, to try and get a closer look.
Iko: I need to know if it's more or less of a threat on or off you, okay?
Wong: As long as you’re not planning on pointing a phaser at me; which by the way is not an approved medical procedure.
Not at him! At the cuff, if necessary. She honestly wished she didn't have to deal with this, because it would have been a hell of a lot easier if she was back at her desk, but that's what you got for being the sec/Tac chief in the middle of nowhere.
Orrey: You don’t know that.
Bec almost chuckled.
The cuff had a small little glyph on it. Some kind of white bird. Bec almost rolled her eyes at how riddle-centric secret stuff got, until she realised it could be a clue. At least, for what the cuff was. They still needed to figure other things out. Like where everybody went.
Iko: The stuff here are all named after earth mythological creatures. Besides “Interlink”. We figure out what that is, we might be able to learn about what the hell is on your wrist.
Wong: Well, my first clue here is this desk. That’s where I found it.
Orrey: We need to figure out what they were doing here and why or where they left.
Bewildered and slightly without direction, Bec went back to the pile of papers that she'd let sprawl all over the floor. She was sure the others could look at the desk—or at the very least, make sure no-one else got cuffed-in.
One of the pieces of paper caught her eye.
// They want to leave me behind. //
She picked it up.
Iko: ::whispering to herself:: What happened here?
Wong: If it’s safe to do so, I wouldn’t mind looking in this desk.
Bec quickly turned around, and rested her hand back on her holstered phaser. She was sceptical.
Orrey: ::shrugging:: It can’t get much worse. Theoretically at least.
Wong: Okay. So there was a visor in there with my uh… new jewelry. They might be connected somehow…
Orrey: Keep looking.
Bec started to gather the papers up again, but she continuously glanced back in the direction of the doctors, wanting to be ready.
Wong: Maybe the answer is still in this PADD.
Iko: Can you find anything?
Wong: A lot of these file names are also mythological creatures - Project Ogopogo, Project Bunyip, Project Griffin, Project Sphynx….. There’s quite a few here.
Orrey: I see some references of that over here…but a lot of this is becoming garbled.
Bec looked through the crumpled paper as was inclined to agree.
Iko: Garbled is one way of putting it.
Hopper: =/\= Bec, Nathan, this is Robin, checking in… Are you receiving? =/\=
Richards: =/\= Response =/\=
Maybe a chat between all the teams would create sone sense out of this madness.
Iko: =/\= Yes, Robbie. We're here. =/\=
Hopper: =/\= We’ve accessed the science center. Seems the colonists didn’t just ‘vanish’ – the place is pretty dismantled. Systematically. Maybe in an attempt to shut something down… We found a PADD here with an incomplete log that seems to indicate they may have attempted to evacuate, though the reasons aren’t exactly clear. =/\=
Iko: We've found some logs done on paper. Seems they didn't trust the computer system much after a bit.
Richards: =/\= Response =/\=
Hopper: =/\= There are some other anomalous findings from the Indy, but they can wait ‘til we’ve finished our preliminary investigation here. In the meantime, be careful and report anything else you find that might clear up what happened here. =/\=
Richards: =/\= Response =/\=
Iko: =/\= Only other thing I have to report is there's some sort of device that might be stuck to Ikaia Wong. Still trying to assess and make heads or tails of it. =/\=
She sighed.
Orrey: Like I was saying some of this looks garbled and stilted. There is a mental unraveling happening here. Are your notes coherent?
Iko: Most are hardly legible. At least for me.
Orrey: So with Ikaia’s we have a start, mine is the mid-ish point and yours is rolling down the hill into instability.
Wong: The question is why. What caused that instability? That’s what I want to know. Because I’m wondering if what ever happened to her…. Could it happen to us?
oO Maybe that cuff is pumping a drug into your bloodstream or something. Oo
The tricorder data said nothing of the sort, but Bec’s current agitations were providing horrible, incorrect theories regardless.
Wong: While I’m not 100% ruling out disease or a possible polywater infection. I am going to say that it seems unlikely at the moment.
Iko: Then was is?
Orrey: Response
Wong decided to grab the visor. And turn it on. Bec winced, wondering what was goibg to happen.
Wong: Hold on. I’m going to try something and hopefully, my gamble works. According to the notes that I’ve decrypted so far, the visor and the cuff are linked to each other. No idea how to remove the cuff. But I can turn it on.
Iko: Ikaia! What are you doing!?
Bec's hand restlessly tapped where her phaser sat. She was hoping she wouldn't have to use it.
Orrey: Response
Wong held his breath. So did Bec. Some time later, little dots began to show themselves on the visor Wong was wearing. They weren't Intelligible from the other side.
Bec raised her brow as if to demand Wong twll her what was going on.
Wong: Wow. I think…. I think this is a type of tricorder.
Iko: What?
Wong/Orrey: Response
She sighed, Again.
Iko: Okay, what can it tell—
Interlink: LIEUTENANT WONG, IKAIA. STARFLEET SERIAL HI-198-155 SECURITY CLEARANCE BETA-ONE. STARFLEET DATA ACCESS LEVEL THREE.
The voice had come directly from the wrist-cuff.
Iko: —us…
Wong/Orrey: Response
Iko: What's happening with your tricorder bracelet thing? Why did it single you out?
She wasn't wearing the visor, she didn't know.
Have I ever mentioned that Bec doesn't really like it when she doesn't know what's happening?
Wong/Orrey: Response
Something had changed on the PADDs too. They'd briefly displayed an “establishing interlink” message, and now the whole UI was different.
Bec picked one of the PADDs up. She skimmed through it, brow furrowed.
Iko: …Is this the Indy's systems?
She kept looking though it, becoming more concerned the more she found—tactical systems, personal logs, a rather large pile of audio files that all belonged to Wil…
Iko: All the Indy's systems?
Wong/Orrey: Response
Iko: Is this why Mabel's notes moved to paper?
Wong/Orrey: Response
