((Sub Tropical Biome, Peace Park, Amity Outpost))
He must have walked this patrol easily a hundred and one times since coming to Amity, at least once a week, minus times away from the station. But of all the patrol routes he was assigned, Peace Park was his… second favorite. Nothing beat Paxau—nothing beat getting fattened up by happy Talaxians as you patrolled their part of the station—but Peace Park was a definite close second, and it was always a highlight of the patrol rotation.
Mostly. Sometimes Kaito had to play Park Ranger and keep visitors from trying to pet the koalas, or kids from climbing the cherry blossoms, and no one in Security would forget the day a visiting ambassador's child lost her two pet hybors in the Lor’Vela Biome. Rumor had it some of the civilians were still getting counseling for that day. The joys of being both a diplomatic outpost—the only starbase for Federation operations in the Delta Quadrant—and essentially a twenty-four-hour space Buc-ee’s at the end of the great quantum slipstream highway that connected them to the Beta Quadrant.
Luckily, today had none of those oddities—except for the fact that Kaito was alone on patrol. A few of the security crewmen were on shore leave, and the one assigned with him on this patrol had tried a few exotic dishes brought in by a Talaxian trader. So he was out for the count, but instead of pulling someone off another patrol, Kaito just volunteered to handle it himself. After all, it wasn’t like he was alone—Peace Park was safe and, at all times, had at least two other patrols. In theory, he could have just canceled his patrol, and the other two would pick up the slack… That wasn’t Kaito’s style.
Having exited the cherry blossoms, he found himself enjoying his stroll through the temperate biome and looking forward to a quick stop in the Blue Gums for lunch. Then he noticed someone in the distance—someone he wasn’t familiar with—but they seemed to be enjoying the water.
Checking his wristwatch, it was close enough to lunchtime, so he decided to intercept. Someone was having fun on his watch. Clearly, he couldn’t have that.
Moore: Afternoon. How’s the water today?
Nevark: Response
Moore: I’m just on patrol, and you’re a new face, so I figured I would stop on by and say hello.
She was no doubt processed by another member of the Security staff, but he knew she was the new counselor and was assigned to the Uwezo mission. Maybe some might find it weird that Kaito tried to keep track of everyone new to Amity, but he saw it as operational security. Besides, in his mind, the more he knew about who came and went, the safer everyone was.
Nevark: Response
Moore: Pleasure to meet you. Lieutenant Kaito Moore. You’re the new counselor, and you were on the Uwezo mission. How are you liking everything so far?
Nevark: Response
