To say two-time champion Cav Kato was frustrated would be the understatement of the century. Here he was, trying to explain to these button pushers that such a fine racer as his beauty, the Sapphire Cutlass, needed tender love and care, but did they care? Nope.

Typical bureaucrats, only these ones wore more colorful suits.

Ariadust: In the lead up to the race, all crafts are separated to prevent any tampering - it's for everyone's safety.

"Safety." Ha!

Paarus: You can rest assured that your craft will be secured until the race.

Cav puffed his chest out a bit.

Kato: Well that's unacceptable.

Reade: I can understand your feeling about that, but this a rule to ensure the race is fair.

Paarus: The rule is called parc ferme. It's standard practice for most races.

Cav didn't really care what it was called. They could call it prime fresh seaweed biscuits for all he cared. Still, the one woman with striking blue eyes and cat ears stood firm.

Ariadust: Unacceptable or not, it is a prerequisite for the race. If you cannot abide by that rule, you cannot participate.

The Terrellian felt the back of his neck turning hot. He looked back over them and at the gray craft behind them.

Kato: And I suppose that one gets an exception? Is that it? Giving yourselves an advantage? Well it won't work.

Reade:  Oh that one, that is not even entering the race.

Ariadust: That a) isn't the runabout we're using::she pointed to a guarded by race staff alcove where it was being painted:: That is.  ::her tone was icy:: b) the staff enforcing the sequestration will have non Federation staff on board to ensure that we can't get access during sequestration and c) these rules were given to you before you agreed to participate. ::deep breath:: If you have further complaints, I strongly recommend you contact the command staff at this commcode. ::She hands him the contract with the relevant sections - including the complaint line- highlighted.:: It is possible you can persuade them otherwise, but I would think you would prefer the security of knowing no one can tamper with your machine.

Paarus: Sir, we will make sure to keep your ship secure in its birth until the day of the race.

Cav pulled up a PADD as he went through the regulations concerning the qualifiers.

Kato: You all claim to host a regulation event, and then you introduce irregular practices!

Reade: I do think Lt. Ariadust explained it very well.

Ariadust: You came here, with that attitude, and a desire to bypass a contract you signed on and expected..? ::Ceciri did cool down, slightly, but not much.:: Also, there is a banked three hours to get the shuttles ready and checked.

Reade: Once again, I agree with Lt. Ariadust.

Cav looked over at the other man, who seemed to relish in not being able to help.

Paarus: These two outrank me, so I defer to them.

Before he could make a pithy reply, another racer walked up towards them.

Wylam: Now, now, Cav.  The Federation are graciously hosting a rally for us.  With a brand new 2.1-billion-kilometre course.

Kato: "Gracious" is debatable, Wy...

Wylam: This wouldn’t all be because you’re concerned about the course, is it?  We all know that a course based in a nebula is more technically challenging for us *pilots*.  ::Patting Cav on shoulder:: And we all know how much you prefer longer, straighter courses.

Cav continued to grumble. He didn't know what Wy was playing at. She wasn't usually this amenable to strangers. She must have been playing her own angle on these smiling Alpha folk.

Reade: Well then. Who may you be?

Paarus: ::small hand wave:: Hello

Ariadust: Response

Wylam: Pleasure to meet you.  I’m Wylam, lead pilot for the Imhotep racing team.  You're all doing a wonderful job of hosting this race, everyone is impressed at how organised it is.  ::to Ceciri, genuine smile:: And you must be Ceciri Ariadust.  I have heard good reports about your piloting skills.

Ariadust: Response

Reade: I am Lt. JG Scotty Reade, Engineering Officer

Paarus: Ensign Paarus Zalbac, Operations. It's a pleasure to meet you Wylam.

Kato: Well now that we know everybody, why don't we try fixing the problem.

Wylam: Personally, I like the parc ferme concept.  Our chief engineer doesn’t, especially since our team has two ships in the race.  But I like anything that makes the racing fairer.  ::looking at Kato::  I hear the Regulations Committee is considering adopting the concept for all future races.

She raised her eyebrows at him, which in a past time and place would have been an overture, but after their last race together, he and Wy had agreed to keep things purely professional.

Paarus: It's a solid way to ensure safety and fairness for all participants. In fact, it was Lieutenant Reade's recommendation.

Kato: It's a solid way to ensure alternate rallies forming soon...

Ariadust: Response

Reade: I am actually surprised my recommendation might be taking fully on into all races. This was used way back in the 20th century for a motorsport race, the league itself was called Formula 1.

Wylam: The Amity course is a tactical race, Cav.  Raw pace isn’t going to get you over the line this time.  You might have to actually be a pilot for a change.  Like myself and Lieutenant Ariadust.

Cav glanced back at Wy. Perhaps she was going to try buttering up this Ariadust.

Paarus: Isn't piloting the whole point of the race? Isn't that where you get the thrills?

Kato: I don't need to prove anything to you all. I have the medals to show for it.

He looked back at Wy.

Kato: I'll see you around the station, I'm sure...

Wylan: Response

Cav then looked back at Ariadust.

Kato: And I'd say I'll see you out there in the stars, but the only place I expect to see you is in my aft sensor readings. Good day.

Ariadust: Response

And with that, Cav turned around and stormed out of the terminal as the others continued their chat. He'd be sure to get the last laugh when the green light was given on race day.
