OOC: I had to move a line or two of dialogue for things to make sense. It shouldn’t change the overall meaning of the scene.

((Robin Hoopers Apartment, Beijing District - 0945 hours

She’d thought the Astraeus and the Atlantis had had strange mishaps. But vole-weasel creatures? That was new.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::to Vanlith:: What do you think? Will it work without turning us into sitting ducks?

Vanlith: They have unique enough bio-signatures to run an internal transport of just those bio-signatures to the cargo hold. They can eat until they are stuffed there off the metal and we can deal with repairs and damages later but they shouldn’t be able to impact main systems unless they somehow get out again.

Give the little boogers something to do, then.

Rosek-Skyfire: Sounds like a plan. ::to Saavei:: Any other thoughts on how we can keep them contained?

Saavei: Believe we would still have enough power to utilize the gas and prevent them from leaving the cargo hold.

Moore: Char. I am linking internal security sensors to your console; they should get a more accurate read on the creatures.

Wanting to look for herself, she moved over to a nearby terminal.

Rosek-Skyfire: If you don’t mind linking me in, too?

Wong: =/\=If anyone has any ideas, I’d like to hear them right now!=/\=

She could tell that the Lieutenant-Doctor was definitely panicking. Not that she could blame them as she wasn’t overly fond of being bitten or attacked by strange creatures herself.

A glance around the room revealed the team hard at work to solve the problem. She was ready to step in as needed. For now, she just monitored the situation, ensuring that whatever they did wouldn’t drain the power they so desperately needed to keep those on the station safe.

Rosek-Skyfire: =/\= Hang tight, Doctor. We’re working on it. =/\=

Vanlith: =/\= Confirm the weasel is gone and you are still in the turbo lift? =/\=

Wong: =/\=They are NOT gone! Definitely NOT gone!=/\=

Saavei: One must respect their tenaciousness, if nothing else. However I believe it would be a tragedy if Lieutenant Wong were to be devoured by Voles. Re-directing power to internal sensors…

She smiled, shaking her head at the dry humor, stated so nonchalantly that anyone hearing it without context would be confused.

Her smile faded when the lights in the room flickered, and she grimaced, noting the fluctuations in the power grid.

Moore: Recalibrating the sensors to focus on their biosigns.

Rosek-Skyfire: I’m going to see if I can pull power from other systems to bolster the internal sensors.

Vanlith: =/\= Preparing mass transport of the bio-signatures to the cargo hold. =/\= ::to Saavei and Moore:: Can you make sure the turbolift is running and check that the cargo hold is locked down?

Wong: =/\=You’re doing what?!=/\=

Saavei: Turbolifts are... ::her brow furrowed a moment as she worked for a three-count ::... running. There is a parasitic power drain on the system, I believe from the storm. I cannot maintain them for long.

Moore: Doors are locked, and force fields ready to raise once you transport them in.

Wong: =/\=They really don’t like me very much!=/\=

While the others worked, she kept an eye on the power levels to make sure nothing dipped below the thresholds they’d established. If the storm hit a peak and they didn’t have strong enough shielding, the number of creatures chasing Lieutenant-Doctor Wong wouldn’t matter.

Vanlith: Transport complete, did I get them all? Do we even know how many there should be there?

Saavei: I am unsure. Their social behaviors while hunting Lieutenant Wong would suggest they would all be in close proximity, however.

Moore: Brings up the question: why would a species that sustains off of metal and energy even think about hunting an organic? Some kind of inorganic-organic omnivore?

It was a valid point. She knew so little about these creatures, so their psychology was foreign to her.

Rosek-Skyfire: Maybe they’re smelling something that Doctor Wong is carrying, and that’s what’s attracting them?

Wong: =/\=I’m in the turbolift and on my way…..=/\=

Well, that solved one problem. At least they had a bit more time to get them out.

Saavei: =/\= Recommend you proceed directly, Lieutenant. Turbolifts will not be functional for long. =/\=

Her brow furrowed as she desperately searched for anything she could send toward the turbolifts to buy the Doctor a bit more time, but it would mean taking power away from the sensors that were searching for more of the creatures.

As soon as Charlena gave the all clear, she’d direct any power they could spare to the turbolifts.

Vanlith: Response

Wong: =/\=Dear sweet zombie Spock….. You’re not going to believe this….=/\=

Saavei: ::clearly confused, looking to the others:: Dear sweet zombie Spock?... I am concerned the doctor may be suffering from radiation poisoning if he is seeing the ambulatory corpse of Ambassador Spock.

Normally, she found the confusion endearing. But right about now, the concern in Wong’s voice was her main focus.

Moore: The "not going to believe" part is what we should be worried about…

Rosek-Skyfire: ::grimaces:: Agreed.

Vanlith: Response

Wong: =/\=I managed to get a scan of those creatures and I can say that this is the most… uh…. Cursed combination of DNA I have ever seen. I see tribble, Cardassian vole, and a third unknown species.=/\=

Rosek-Skyfire: ::frowns:: I can’t imagine that’s by accident. Someone must have been experimenting with genetic engineering. These creatures were clearly designed for a purpose.

Moore: Oh hell no… handling the rodent problem.

Rosek-Skyfire: We’re stretched thin on power distribution or I’d give you more to work with. Between trying to keep the turbolifts running and boosting internal sensors to find the creatures in the first place, we’ll be blessed if we don’t start seeing sectors of the station lose life support.

Vanlith: Response

The sound of an alarm caused her to tense up, but she took a deep breath, refocusing her senses on the things she could control.

Saavei: Turbolifts are failing. Reading disruptions in the power supply. Lieutenant Vanlith, are you able to compensate?

Vanlith: Response

Saavei: =/\= Lieutenant Wong, we are attempting to keep the lift operational. Power is intermittent. If you remove the maintenance panel in the lift, you may be able to augment power with your scanner battery =/\=

Wong: Response

Saavei: We may need to transport him if this does not work. I would rather apologize for scrambling his atoms than have him risk exposure to the radiation.

Moore: How bad is the power loss?

Rosek-Skyfire: ::shakes her head:: At this rate, we may need to start shifting personnel and shutting down power to more sections of the station to maintain thresholds. My concern is that we’re already running at near minimum. We may reach a point where that will harm more than help.

Vanlith/Wong: Responses

Saavei: Thirty-two percent degradation in power supply.

Moore: That seems worse than projected. We must be losing or using more power than expected… I have an idea.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::grins unamusedly:: It may have something to do with unexpectedly needing to rescue Doctor Wong from weasel-vole creatures. We hadn’t accounted for needing that turbolift. All personnel were supposed to be evacuating from that section.

Moore: Let’s start with grav plating. That takes up a lot of energy, but also has backups. Cut the grav plating in unimportant areas, and transfer the backups’ energy to where we need it.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::nods:: I’d taken some from there for the internal sensors, but I’ll see if there are more sections we can pull from. We might just need to go to emergency lighting in more areas.

Her fingers flew expertly across the console, looking at where they could reduce to emergency lighting while Kaito took from the grav plating, all the while watching the displays to ensure they weren’t overloading any key EPS conduits.

Saavei/Vanlith/Wong: Responses

Moore: Hmm. That one’s giving me a little bit of trouble.

Saavei/Vanlith/Wong: Response

While Kaito battled the rodents, Lael was able to get some power from the lighting and transfer it to the transporter systems.

Rosek-Skyfire: Saavei, Charlena, get the Doctor out of there! Now!

Saavei/Vanlith/Wong: Response

Her heart raced as she did what she could to maintain power to the transporters and everything else.

Moore: Not today! Satan!

Saavei/Vanlith/Wong: Response

Moore: Sorry. Got a little excited… Oh hey Wong?! When did you get here?

She turned and frowned when she saw that the Doctor had indeed arrived. She hadn’t heard the transporter. Had they run all that way? Maybe they’d been closer than she thought.

Wong: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: Are you good, Doctor? Any injuries?

Wong: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: ::nods:: Can you start with the others? It usually takes longer for radiation to affect me anyway. I can keep working on power redistribution in the meantime.

Wong: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: ::to Saavei and Vanlith:: How’s it looking over there?

Saavei / Vanlith: Responses

Rosek-Skyfire: Good. I’ll transfer a bit of the turbolift power to the delivery system to ensure we get full coverage of the cargo hold. ::to Kaito:: Did we get them all?

Moore: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: Good work, Lieutenant. We should give one more decent sweep before we move on, though.

Moore: Response

Saavei/Vanlith/Wong: Responses
