Saavei turned back to her console.
Saavei: Emergency repairs are holding. Compromised areas have been evacuated. The warp core is still fragile.
Dupont: The Vaadwaur are heading towards the remaining rifts. ::Turning over her shoulder:: They’re leaving.
Ukinix: Whaddya think. Have we seen the last of them?
Taelon: I, um, highly doubt it, sir…
Aitas: I have to concur. We don’t know how long underspace in this area will remain unstable, or to what extent they can compensate for it.
Saavei: All worthy points of research in the future. The Vaadwaur are a prideful species and unlikely to forget their withdrawal here today. It could be considered a defeat, which they may not be willing to let stand.
Given the actions of the Vaadwaur in the past, and Saavei's own tactical analysis, they would likely wish to re-establish their reputations as a formidable military force. 'Losing' a battle with Starfleet could conflict with that. Ergo, they would change the narrative or seek to redress the issue later. Absent other factors, it would be wise to prepare for the possibility of future hostilities with them.
There was a flash on the screen, just about in time to match Robin's countdown.
Ukinix: Is that warp core detonation?
Taelon: Um, aye, Commander. Warp core detonation confirmed.
Saavei: I concur.
Ukinix: ... oh no.
Taelon: The Daintree is still on sensors, sir. I, um, would assume that was the threatened detonation Commander Hopper mentioned.
Saavei: The explosive range exceeded one thousand megatons.
Taelon: The Vaadwuar have entered Underspace. Let’s hope they, um, stay there for awhile…
Aitas attempted a nod, and had to brace herself against the back wall.
Saavei was torn between continuing to maintain the ship and assisting Aitas to medical. Were the Independence-B not in such a dire condition, it would be an easy decision. For now that EMH would have to serve to get her to a... real doctor.
Dupont: Aye, sir, laying in a course for the Outpost.
As it was, Saavei felt her head tingling with what might have been the onset of a migraine. The Independence-B was shot to pieces and Surak-knew how much better Amity Outpost had fared. Her thoughts went to the people she knew who'd almost certainly been there and how some of them might have been seriously injured or even killed during the assault. The stress of the moment felt like it might bubble up, before she forced it down by feeding all of it into the fire within the void she created in her mind. There would be time for meditation later.
