((Transporter Room 2 - USS Kepler))

While what was happening to the UAW ship and people was horrible, part of Vexa was endlessly fascinated. She was far from a science or medical expert, but knew enough to get the gist. That she knew of, a pathogen like this before had never been encountered, at least not by Starfleet. Some of the details were still a little less vague than she would have preferred (being the precise, detail-oriented Bolian she was), but that only meant that they hadn’t had enough time to gather all of the information yet. That would come with time and study.

Wong: Alright. Let’s review here - if reports are as accurate as they claim to be, we are likely walking into a scenario with an unknown pathogen.

She nodded, EV suit helmet in hand, ready to don it the second they actually made to step onto the transporter pad. While she wasn’t claustrophobic, she would be lying if she said the suits weren’t uncomfortable. She’d learned to tolerate them, though. It was just part of the job.

As far as the unknown pathogen–it was nerve-wracking not knowing how it would interact with her biology. But, as she’d told Hopper and the Captain, adventure was part of why she’d enlisted.

Varati: We've prepared for everything imaginable, but not really for biological attacks. Are all the EV suits complete? Is the pressure testing finished? I'm afraid this time it's probably not down to some off cheese...

Vexa’s brow furrowed, slightly puzzled by what she assumed was an attempt at humor. She doubted she’d ever fully grasp other humanoids’ jokes. Her own wasn’t always witty and at times received–what was the Human expression?--crickets in response.

Lor: The simulations gave us some good ideas on adjustments, but we can only do so much. We do have a plan B in case something like that comes up. I’m sure Sickbay will be on standby.

Wong: Also, that very much means no touching anything that looks well…. Weird. If it looks like something Barberra would stick her hands on, don’t touch it.

Varati: ::rolls her eyes:: So I have no desire to find out if I'm immortal... I have updated all our tricorders and sensors again and equipped them with expanded databases and calibrations for biomedical elements.

Lor: ::smirks:: That is one bit of wisdom I was raised with from an early age. ::pauses and nods:: I’ll make sure to take notes of any information we get from our hosts. They might be able to offer tidbits that could contain clues that will shine some light, so to speak.

That had always been her. The notetaker. The observer. The analyzer. It was useful most of the time, but she’d had peers complain about it. She’d tried to be kind and tolerant, but she wasn’t willing to compromise a method that worked for her because someone else didn’t like it. She was good at her job, and she wasn’t going to apologize for that.

Wong: Any questions?

Lor: ::shakes her head:: None that I can think of right now. Though I’ll be sure to let you know if any crop up along the way.

Varati: I'm ready; final check of the EV suits? The field kits are ready, too. I'm ready to go, even if it means going without my chocolate again. ::sighs::

Lor: ::arches her eyebrows:: Chocolate, as delicious as it sounds, is the least of my concerns right now. Making it back to enjoy some chocolate, on the other hand–

Damn, now she was thinking about the epic brownie and ice cream concoction dripping with rich hot fudge that she wanted when this mission was over.

She shook the thoughts from her head and refocused her attention on the situation at hand.

Varati: ::in thoughts:: I just hope I haven't forgotten anything... I haven't dealt with biological topics since the academy. ::to Vexa:: Are you more familiar with that, Lt. Lor? I don't think we've even had a chance to introduce ourselves properly? It's always so hectic when there's a new mission.

Lor: ::pauses:: I’m not an expert, but I think we’re good. We’ve got the basics and should be able to comm back if we find we need anything else.

Wong: Response

Varati: Thanks… I’m D’Cyra Varati, science officer. And most recently, I've been focusing more on our drones, buoys, and communication systems.

Lor: ::smiles:: Good to meet you. And glad you’ve got that covered. I’m sort of a jack of all trades, but have more of an affinity for piloting and operations work.

She’d never been overly interested in science anyway. Flying never seemed to get boring.

Wong: Response

Varati: What's the name of our contact person on the Enterprise? I feel like I only ever get half the documents…

Hearing the ship name was still a little weird. She’d spent years at the Academy learning about the various Starfleet and Federation ships named Enterprise…along with the many Human ships throughout their history to bear that name.

It almost seemed like cheating.

Lor: ::to Wong:: Do you have that info, Doctor?

Wong: Response

Lor: ::pauses:: It would be kind of nice to have a bit of background information on them before we go over there. ::smiles wanly:: Don’t want to offend someone during my first mission in the region.

Wong / Varati: Response

Lor: ::tilts her head to one side:: Anything else we need to know before we beam over?

Wong: Response

Varati: Response

Vexa nodded in acknowledgement, slipping the helmet on and locking it into place. She then tapped a few commands into the control panel on the suit’s arm to make adjustments to the internal temperature and oxygen flow.

That was one of the nice things about them. She could adjust to her comfort without making others uncomfortable.

Lor: Well, I’m ready when you both are.

Wong / Varati: Response
