((Starfleet Ops, Level 1, Copernicus Center, Amity Outpost))
Iko: D’Cyra, Robin’s team has found something, and it kind of matches readings from this ship the others are talking to. A… I dunno… lazy tetryon or tachyon particle?
Varati: Tetryons would be ok and further evidence for perhaps other subspace corridors. But tachyons? That could point to cloaking technologies, weapons, or transporter signals!? We need to know more precisely what the sensors of the Daintree recorded there.
Iko: Can we use that as a start?
Varati: I will switch the measurement intervals of the sensors for tetryon radiation to continuous operation until we know what and, above all, "where" we are dealing with.
Rosek-Skyfire: ::taps in a series of commands:: Here's a little algorithm of mine that will narrow the parameters a bit more to common frequencies and characteristics of tetryon radiation.
Bec plugged in the scan for what the scouts had found to see where else it could be found in the Nebula.
There were a lot of different places. Some had very faint readings, and she doubted all of them were actually entrances to Underspace, but:
Iko: Ohh &#@%.
There were a lot of places where corridor exits could be.
Varati: ::to Bec:: What's going on? What did you see, Commander?
She gestured to the readouts.
Rosek-Skyfire: ::pauses:: Interesting.
Varati: Hmm… Okay, those are identical patterns from the scanners of the two scouts, interesting. And we're finding them here in our area too, great, at least the sensors are all working the same…
You could trust D'Cyra to find a positive in every situation.
Varati: Okay, let's adopt these search matrices for our scanners as well, so that we don't just capture random overlaps. And at the same time, we're scanning for all known warp signatures in the vicinity of these particle clusters. Further heuristic scans will hopefully reveal whether there are any other traces. We probably don't have any current signature patterns from the Turei and Vaadwaur?
Rosek-Skyfire: ::to Bec:: Do we? I can try searching our database, but I don't know much about either. Any hints on what I'm looking for would help.
Bec shook her head.
Iko: Not since, what's it called? Brightstar. And even there I don’t even know if Wil has enough clearance to get enough out of it
Varati: But if that's true... by the Thousand Gods! The continuous scans are only running for a few minutes at most. Here in the nebula, I can see smaller clusters of particles that have risen and fallen. But at the large fold near the scouts... the radiation levels there have been varying but rising sharply in the last few minutes, which means a major collapse is imminent! Something unplanned probably happened when anyone exited the corridor, like knocking over a support pillar or something... The scouts need to get out of there as quickly as possible!
Trust D'Cyra to also always find a startling negative. Bec buried her face back into her console.
Rosek-Skyfire: ::pauses:: What's the risk to the scout ships? We can't send them on a suicide mission without more information.
Bec kept her eyes on the readouts in front of her as she spoke.
Iko: Hopefully they have more information than us.
Varati: =/\= OPs to Daintree, Miombo and Independence-B: Whoever receives it first: the scouts must get away from the vicinity of the subspace rift! Immediately! Part of the rift is on the verge of collapse! Get out of there! =/\=
Bec turned from the console, to look at D'Cyra, though she glanced back at the information frequently.
Varati: ::to Bec and Lael:: Excuse me, but it's better to be a little too cautious than to have the scouts get into unforeseen difficulties.
Bec noticed a glance from Lael. She understood it: disapproval of D'Cyra's actions, taking command while only being an ensign, etc.. Bec then glanced at D'Cyra. The woman reminded her of when she had been an Ensign: Bold and eager and just trying to look out for her crew, even if mistakes would be made along the way.
‘Course, maybe the warning didn't need to be as intense as it was, but it was probably better than threatening a Trenvonn in front of Captain Rahman during a first contact. And by then Bec had been a Jay-gee, so…
Rosek-Skyfire: =/\= There's some urgency, but exercise your best judgement. Let us know what you find. =/\=
Iko: ::under her breath:: Please find something…
She was sick of the circles of no answers.
Daintree/Miombo/Indy: Response (?)
Rosek-Skyfire: =/\= Understood. Rosek out. =/\= ::to D’Cyra:: All right. Let's see if we can get any more information to pass along. The more they have, the better of an idea they will have of what they are getting themselves into. Informed decisions are key.
Varati: Response
Rosek-Skyfire: ::to Bec:: We don't have much time. Any thoughts on what else we need to look for or any other scans we can run to get more information?
Bec furrowed her brow, thinking.
Iko: If we can get our hands on more information about the vessel the Runabouts have been chatting to…
Varati: Response
Rosek-Skyfire: ::brow furrows:: See if you can adjust the sensors. ::to D’Cyra:: Can we increase their range at all? Get more detailed scans?
Varati: Response
Iko: Please…
Varati/Rosek-Skyfire: Response
Saavei: =/\= Miombo to Ops, the Daintree has been damaged. We are attempting to assist. There is a Turei vessel, the Starshell, with us. =/\=
The quality of the Comms wasn’t great, but it was still understandable.
Iko: D'Cyra I want data on that vessel and I want it now. Their warp signature and how it reacts with the rift and subspace is our key.
Hopefully it was the right one and not one of the twenty others on the chain.
She let Lael actually answer the comms call.
Varati/Rosek-Skyfire: Response
Iko: What's the Indy doing?
They were much closer and could probably get to the Daintree much faster than the team at Ops.
Varati/Rosek-Skyfire: Response
She nodded. So… The Indy wasn't going anywhere. Bec began slowly (very slowly, in case someone was gonna say "no") moving towards the exit of ops, in the direction of the last Taelon scout.
Iko: Any objections to grabbing Yosemite Sam and trying to help 'em out?
Varati/Rosek-Skyfire: Response
