((Amity Outpost – Counselor Carter’s Office))
Hopper: Morning, Sir! It’s nice to meet you in a less life-or-death scenario.
She reached a hand out to him warmly, which he accepted happily.
Carter: You got that right, Lieutenant. How do you like to be referred as? Lieutenant? Robin?
As their hands parted, she waved hers dismissively while making a face that combined humour with dismay.
Hopper: Please, call me Robin. Especially when I’m off duty. ::Laughing:: A few of the crewmen in the SRC insist on calling me “ma’am” and it’s extremely surreal…
Carter: You got the pips and you will get used to it. Eventually.
Her mentor and former department chief aboard the Wall Street had said something similar – but it still felt odd. She didn’t feel like a “ma’am” or a “sir”. oO Maybe I should try out “boss”... Oo She smiled to herself, amused at the thought.
Carter: ::Pointing at the chair in front of his desk:: Have a seat, and make yourself comfortable...
She took a seat opposite Carter and crossed her right leg over her left. Without the skant uniform tights covering it up, her prosthetic left leg – made of matte-finished white aluminum – coordinated nicely with the simple black-and-white palette of her outfit.
Hopper: Sorry for putting this off over the last few weeks, by the way. I’m sure you understand I’ve had a lot on my plate. ::Clasping hands and resting them on her knee:: But I’m happy to dive right in!
Carter: It's been pretty busy for all of us the last few months. First off, tell me a little bit about yourself. Friends, family. How do you like it out here?
Hopper: ::Silently nodding while thinking, then…:: Ahh, yeah, okay. I’ll start with the simplest one. I grew up on Theta VII – have you heard of it?
Carter: Response
Hopper: ::Chuckling:: Without giving a history lesson, it’s an old resource colony from the mid-2200’s. My parents moved there shortly before I was born and took over management of a farm.
Carter: Response
Hopper: I’ve never really thought of myself as a ‘farmer’, though I do love growing plants. One of them used to work with the FDC, she was stationed on Velestus – ah, Alpha Centauri – and that’s where they met. I’m half-Centauran, so that explains that. ::Pausing:: I feel like I’m not telling this story very well.
Carter: Response
Hopper: Well, anyways, I also have a younger sister, Keri. She’s twenty this year and currently studying politics on Tellar Prime – which probably tells you a lot about her personality…
Carter: Response
Hopper: As for Amity, I’m doing my best to hit the ground running. It’s a big station, and there’s a lot to take in. I’ve made myself some appointments with other senior staff to try and get to know everyone during shore leave… but it’s definitely going to take some time before I feel fully ‘settled’. Actually, to that end, I’ve just gotten my quarters figured out. I’m definitely looking forward to sleeping in my own bed for the first time in… ::eyes wide:: …months.
