Keehani
: I was in the second meeting with Sahim, to discuss the logistics of scanning the Angels.  I don’t think she shares the same, let’s say “passion” as Prarim but there is still devotion.

Daniels: I see so there is a variance within the population. Then again I guess that is to be expected across any population.

Keehani briefly looked at Rivi out of the corner of her eye to view a case in point.  She just a quickly focused her eyes back on Carter.

Keehani:  ::To Carter:: What are your impressions of them?

Daniels: Well personally I find them fascinating. They show signs of the early established beliefs of civilisations on earth and some of the religious practice of pilgrimage and signs from the Gods as well. The beginnings of religions such as Christianity relied upon these beliefs and signs, the star with the gifts from the wise men, marking of the stable alongside the songs and messages from the angles. It seems to be this also follows a more spiritual line such as the Native Americans and their culture however I do not know much about this. I wonder how it will be presented by media. It is easy to insult something or judge something that isn't understood.

Keehani: ::Hand wave:: Allow me to handle the news media.  I have already given a quick statement to Mr. Summerside.  I have sent a direction to all diplomatic staff to be aware that for him any conversation is “on the record.”

Vataix: Yes, we need to make sure the press doesn't get ahead of us on this situation and that we present a united message from the Federation Diplomatic Corps.

Daniels: Agreed. Religious practices have far too often throughout history been misrepresented or distorted by the media.

Keehani: Moving the creatures to another safe location, and using a technological solution to keep them there without harming them or interrupting mining operations, I think would be best for everyone.  I would suggest proactively offering the Hawlats something that benefits them, with no questions asked, to show that we are serious about diplomatic relations. That is what the Federation does.

Vataix: Mr. Daniels, whatever we can learn more about Hawlat and their history in this quadrant I think would be helpful. More about their society and culture...

Daniels: Indeed. I'd like to talk with them. Maybe prepare a cultural exchange.

Vataix: What do you suggest?

Daniels: Well I was thinking about asking them to show me, if they were willing how they worshiped, anything they wanted really, foods, cooking methods, stories. Everything can help build a picture of beliefs and attitudes. It's just making sure it's done on terms they are happy with.

Vataix: The lead Hawlat pilgrim Prarim might have had strongly stated views, but he's shown a willingness to share his culture with us by his invitation into the ritual.

Keehani: Sharing is one thing.  Forcing beliefs is another, especially if it’s used as some sort of bargaining chip.

She had experienced just that firsthand, during her time as a member of the former Guardians of Betazed.  At their meetings, they would discuss different aspects of independence to form a policy position regarding Betazed independence from the Federation.  The “Departazed” faction, those with extreme views of completely leaving the federation rather than being semi-autonomous,

Daniels: If I could send a message to the Luminaries, asking for education and teaching in all and any areas they are willing. Show an openness to learn with no conditions attached so that-

The conversation was interrupted when Rivi’s combadge chirped.

Ukinix: =/\= Ukinix to Vataix. Ambassador, you might want to look out of your windows to the top of the mezzanine. =/\=

Keehani frowned in puzzlement momentarily, before standing up and heading towards the windows that overlooked the mezzaning level of the Grand Mezzanine.  People were lined all along the balcony, looking up.  Slowly, Keehani leaned forward so that her forehead was pressed against the windown, and looked up.  While it wasn’t the greatest view of the space outside, she could see what the people had been looking at.

Creatures.  Lots and lots of them.  Banging into the clear roof of the Grand Mezzanine.

Vataix:=/\= Meet me in Ops, Commander. Have Dr. Aleksandrov come along. I'm sure Commander Iovianus will be busy handling station security during all of this. =/\=

Ukinix: =/\= Understood, we’ll seeya there.  Ukinix out. =/\=

Vataix: It seems we don't have the luxury of time--and I'm afraid the Hawlat are just going to have to accept that *some* intervention will be needed for the safe operations of this outpost.

Daniels: This might be a slight issue. Have we discovered if they are a herding species or not? Just well ::he paused:: it could solve the miners problem. Although ::he trailed off hoping the others would understand his concern::

Vataix: Mr. Daniels, go ahead and meet with Dr. Orrey along with the Hawlat pilgrims and find out all you can. Keehani, you're with me.

Keehani: Yes, Ambassador.

Daniels: Response

As they were heading out of the office, a Starfleet uniformed Bajoran with a single pip approached them.

(OOC from Rivi’s sim: Ensign Paarus, I understand you were having an issue sending your first sim as it did not get posted to the list yet. I am filling in where your first sim takes place as right here, but feel free to continue it a bit longer in your response before you move with Rivi and Keehani to Ops.)

Paarus: ::standing at attention with his arms behind his back:: Ensign Paarus, reporting for assignment.

Vataix: Oh hello, Ensign!

Keehani’s eyes shifted to Rivi’s when the Ambassador turned her attention towards her.

Vataix: ~What impeccable timing!~

Keehani smiled a little as Rivi spoke to her telepathically, to which she replied in the same manner.

Keehani: ~ “In the deep end” as Terrans say. ~

Rivi turned her attention to the person.

Vataix: My name is Ambassador Rivi Vataix, although you can call me Rivi... or Ambassador if you insist on titles.

Paarus: Response

Vataix: This is First Secretary Keehani Ukinix, my aide, and First Secretary Carter Daniels, the assistant to the counselor for cultural and press affairs.

Keehani: ::polite nod:: It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ensign.  ::Looking at cat carrier nearby:: Is that your cat?

While the conversation continued, Keehani put her hand on her chest and smiled while observing the cat in the carrier.  oO Cute! Oo

She walked over and crouched down to look at the furry animal inside.

Daniels: Response

Paarus: Response

Still crouched down, Keehani finally turned to look at the Ambassador, just in time to see her guiding the newly arrived Ensign to turn around back towards the elevator and to follow her.  Keehani stood up and promptly joined them.

Vataix: Now if you don't mind, Ensign, we're in a bit of a rush and actually could use your help!

Paarus: Response

Keehani simply gave Ensign Paarus a shrug, as if to say, “welcome to the party.”

Vataix: Let's go! I'll explain on the turbolift ride down.
