Varati: ::smiling:: Well, Lt. Galanis... Engineering was my minor at the Academy. And on Idrustrix, I already had a few small drones in use to explore further settlement locations. But I know I can get you more interested in stellar cartography. Maybe we can even build a satellite with a large telescope someday. But that's still a long way off. ::pause:: But what about you? I hardly know anything about you, not even what you did at the academy.

Galanis: It’s less a lack of interest and more a lack of time when it comes to stellar cartography. There always seems like something else to do.

Their head cants to the side for a moment thoughtfully at the other part of D’Cyra’s question, Niev considering it as they began to gather their own tools.

Galanis: I’m not sure there’s much beyond what you know. I studied planetary sciences and mathematics, and now I continue to study them while I apply them here on the station. I’ve been studying some form of geology or meteorology since I was old enough to understand what they were.

Varati: Well, that's a start, at least. I know, I won't get very far with history. Oh, and there's even a funny anecdote about that: I accidentally signed up for one seminar too many and ended up taking 58 courses instead of 57. So much for my math skills.

That brought a raised eyebrow from the androgyne, Niev shooting the Orion an impressed look. They wouldn’t say it out loud, but they hadn’t singled D’Cyra out as someone with the dedication to get that many courses done. Remembering their own workload at the Academy was bad enough. The Centauran was impressed.

Galanis: I suppose the chocolate came in handy when it came to getting all of your assignments done on time, then.

Varati: Okay, enough of the jokes, back to work. We absolutely must convince Commander Rosek-Skyfire and Iko of the advantages that upgrading our drone network will bring to each division at the outpost. Then Commander Ukinix will have to provide us with more resources as well. We certainly don't need to convince Robin, being a scientist. What do you think about it?

That brought another pause to Niev’s preparations, this time their eyebrows raising high in surprise. They knew larger projects usually had to go through approval, but having to involve inter-department meetings usually meant higher ambitions.

Galanis: For the entire drone network? Just what kind of upgrades did you have in mind? It’s not as though we’re lacking in resources down here. What you’re talking about sounds almost like a full refitting.

Now D’Cyra moved over to a locked compartment, punching in her code and withdrawing the mysterious tube-shaped packages from within. Niev hesitantly reached out to accept one as it was offered, a brief flash of remembrance about the kinds of things D’Cyra had shown willingness to just put in her hand keeping them skeptical.

Varati: Guess what this is!

Galanis: Some kind of… equipment? An upgraded component for the drones? …Chocolate bars?

Varati: Response

Galanis: …Is that what I think it is?

Varati: Response

Galanis: Well, D’Cyra, you have my attention. But a component is one thing - a strategy is another. What’s the goal you’re picturing for the network with this?

Varati: Response
