The Trenvonn lead scientist's image was on the desktop terminal as Ambassador Rivi Vataix and Captain Roshanara Rahman stood next to each other next to the desk in the small room.

Raask: =/\=Greetings, Ambassador Vataix of this United Federation of Planets. =/\=

Vataix: =/\= On behalf of the Federation, I'd like us to engage in open dialogue better. Would you accept an invitation to board our vessel so that we can discuss the data you sent us and the situation on the surface? =/\=

Raask: =/\=This situation is quite dire on Skraall. It’s important that the plague doesn’t leave Skraall. It would doom my people.=/\=

Synaax: =/\= I agree, there is some concern with the plague on the surface of the planet. =/\=

Vataix: =/\= I understand that, and my hope is that through a face-to-face conversation, we can come to an understanding of how to ensure this plague does not spread while also saving the lives of our own people. =/\=

Raask: =/\=Very well. However, I am not above leaving my ship to board yours. However, I want to bring a few members of my team with me.=/\=

Rivi looked over at Roshanara, who nodded before looking back at the monitor.

Rahman: =/\= That is fine by me. =/\=

The aliens on the other side of the screen discussed for a moment before their leader turned back to them.

Raask: =/\=We’ll be over soon. For the greater good.=/\=

After the comline closed, Rivi looked back at the captain.

Vataix: Perhaps this can be the start of a new understanding.

Rahman: Perhaps, Ambassador, but we mustn't forget that for every minute the away teams are down there isolated, their safety is in jeopardy.

The Betazoid woman nodded solemnly.

Vataix: Rest assured, Captain, that thought has never left my mind.

((Bridge))

The two women walked out onto the bridge to see Lieutenant Iko at the rear of the room and in contact with Wil.

Iko: =/\= Mate… What’s happening down there?... =/\=

Ukinix(H): =/\= We’re being a dogfight with an oversized bowling ball that’s armed to the teeth and cloaking more than a magician in Vegas. =/\=

Roshanara frowned as she exchanged a glance with Rivi. "In jeopardy" seemed an understatement.

Iko: =/\= $&#@... Are you guys good? Besides the, y’know, whole bowling ball thing? =/\=

S’Raga: =/\= You're missing all the fun, Bec! =/\=

Richards: Power transfers complete. Lets make this count!

Roshanara stepped up next to Iko and interjected into the conversation.

Rahman: =/\= Commander Ukinix, do you need our assistance? We're just about to meet with the Trenvonn. =/\=

Ukinix(H): =/\= Captain, tell the Trenvonn to call off their drone, or we’re going to down it. We’ve already downed four of their other drones, and we’re going to keep going to ensure our safety. They’re not dictating terms down here like they think they might be. =/\=

Rahman: =/\= We will. What's the status of your teams? =/\=

Ukinix(H): =/\= Everyone is safe, in an undisclosed location which I won’t share right now in case the Trenvonn exploit it. Suffice it to say we’ve taken matters into our own hands. We also have some people being treated medically as a result of attacks by the drones and they’ll need to get to sickbay soon, so can you please tell the Trenvonn to #@%@ !#@@$ !@#$@#$ &#%$#% @#$%**# for me? That’s my diplomatic contribution for today. Thanks, Captain. =/\=

Roshanara grumbled. It seemed perhaps serving under Rivi's command had allowed Wil and his Starfleet contingent to get a little lax in protocol over this past year. She'd have to have a word with him after he was no longer in danger of being shot down--and perhaps reunited in one form again.

Iovianus: =/\= That is the official security opinion as well Lieutenant. =/\=

Iko: =/\= ::Icily:: Understood. =/\=

Rahman: =/\= We will inform the Trenvonn. =/\=

Richards: =/\= Give them a nice !$#@ you from me! =/\=

S'Raga: =/\= And you can tell them the Caitian thinks they're a bunch of dimple-rumpies! =/\=

Rahman: =/\= Commander, I realize you and the rest of your officers are... occupied at the moment. I expect you to stay alive long enough for us to get you out of there. =/\=

Ukinix: =/\= Understood. Ukinix out. =/\=

Once the comline closed, Roshanara sighed before turning to Rivi and Iko.

Rahman: Let's go meet the Trenvonn then and put an end to this--one way or another.

Rivi folded her hands together as she stepped into the turbolift in silence with the other two women.

((Transporter Room))

When the Trenvonn beamed aboard, shimmering into existence on the transporter pad, the first thing Rivi noted was the brilliant, bold colors of their feathers. The bird-like aliens were a bit shorter than most humanoid species she'd met, just a little shorter than Captain Rahman herself.

The lead Trenvonn spoke first.

Raask: Greetings. Together at last.

Rahman: Welcome aboard the Kitty Hawk.

Sh’Raak: Response.

Synaax: Most Hello to you all!

Raask: We have much to discuss in a short period of time.

Vataix: I'm excited to begin!

Rahman: In addition to Ambassador Vataix, this is Lieutenant Rebecca Iko, a security officer from Amity Outpost.

Iko: Hi, ::ungenuine:: sorry I’m late. ::assertive, to the Trenvonn:: Why are you doing this?

Sh’Raak: Response.

Raask: Response

Synaax: Yes, I agree. There is much to be done.

If this was indeed one of the most delicate first contact situations thus far in the Delta Quadrant, Lieutenant Iko seemed determined to make a very distinct first impression.

Iko: Bull$#@&. “Greater Good”. It’s a lie. It’s a lie you tell yourselves so you can hope to believe that what you are doing is right. That just this one task that causes casualty now will help you prevail into the future. Except now it’s gotten out of hand. Do you know what you’re doing down there? You’re killing the entire planet. You’re murdering and slaughtering an entire world. For the “greater good”. ::pointing:: Down there, Idrustix, Skrall, whatever it’s #%*!@&$ called, is dying a slow, agonising death.

Roshanara wasn't one to be shocked by profanity--having served as an engineer and chief engineer for much of her career, but there was such a thing as a time and place for it. This was not one of them--at least not yet.

Vataix: Bec...

Iko: And you’re lying to and deceiving yourselves and your fellow Trenvonn’s to believe that this is fine, and everything will work out. I know deception and manipulation when I see it. Because I was surrounded by that for the first sixteen years of my life. So let me be honest with you. ::side-eyeing Rahman:: I know that I'm going to be punished for talking to you like this. ::facing the Trenvonn:: I also know that I am angry. Very #*@&%*@ angry. Because you are lying bastards who are holding my family hostage and it is taking so much strength to not snap your STUPID NECK AND CRUSH YOUR LITTLE PEA-BRAIN RIGHT HERE!

The Captain rarely raised her voice, but the lieutenant had just crossed the line.

Rahman: THAT'S ENOUGH, LIEUTENANT!

Iko: ::Stepping back, taking a breath:: now, if you will excuse me, with your permission captain, I’ll be escorting myself to the brig.

Rahman: Denied. You will stand there and be quiet.

Iko: Response

Synaax: Whoa, what have I done to offend you? If I said something please let me know; I find this really odd and out of place for me.

While Rahman looked livid, Rivi just seemed a bit saddened by Bec's outburst and Rahman's subsequent dressing down. While Bec was a Starfleet officer and would be expected to defer to Captain Rahman's orders while aboard Rahman's ship, the young security officer was ultimately still under Rivi's command as a supporting Starfleet officer for the Federation Diplomatic Corps operations. Had she erred though in treating Bec--and subsequently the rest of the Amity Starfleet officers--so casually?

Vataix: My apologies, but you must understand this has been a very... stressful situation for us all. Our colleagues--our friends--have been placed in danger. Having spoken to them just now, there lives are in danger right now by your drones.

Sh’Raak/Raask: Response

Synaax: Captain, does this alien speak for the whole crew?

Rahman: No, she does not. But the ambassador is correct that our colleagues are in grave danger. The team leader on the planet, Lieutenant Commander Wil Ukinix has asked me to implore you to shut off the drone that is actively pursuing them. Can you do that as a show of good faith to start our talks?

Sh’Raak/Raask: Response

Synaax: Well, yes technically it's possible, but I strongly go against that. There is too many unknowns.

Rahman: Ambassador, why don't you and our guests go ahead and take use of our observation lounge for these talks? I'll join you all shortly.

Vataix: That's an excellent idea, Captain.

Synaax: Hmm. That is a good idea. :: looking towards Raask::  If she will allow it. I am willing to help.

Sh’Raak/Raask: Response

(OOC: Will sim for Rivi responding to whatever tags as the Trenvonn and Rivi head up to and settle in the observation lounge.)

Once the Trenvonn and Ambassador Vataix had left, Roshanara turned to the transporter chief.

Rahman: Give us a moment.

Transporter Chief: Aye, captain.

After the chief went off to find something--anything--to do and the doors slid shut again, Roshanara turned around to face Iko.

Rahman: Lieutenant, you do not get the luxury of that kind of outrageous behavior and then a walk to the brig in peace. You enjoy colorful language? Then grow the #%*! up. You're a Starfleet officer, and in case you've forgotten, you're not on Amity Outpost anymore but a Starfleet ship--*my* ship. Do you understand that?

Iko: Response

Rahman: Do not think because Ambassador Vataix and I are pursuing a diplomatic solution that she or I are any less frustrated and angry about this situation as you are. But your little outburst might have just cost whatever chance the ambassador has at avoiding a full-out confrontation with the Trenvonn--possibly even war.

Iko: Response

The captain crossed her arms, shaking her head.

Rahman: Frankly, I'm disappointed not only in your own behavior but the standards evidently set for you. You might only be on my ship for a short time before you return to Amity, but I expect you to raise those standards for the remainder of your stay here.

Iko: Response
