((Uldera City, Zomas, near the edge of UAW space))

Aitas would be filing no shortage of reports about this incident, she expected. Her team had been sent in with new, largely untested weaponry. Another variable to account for in a situation where they already had very limited information. But they had to operate with what they had.

Some long-distance analysis, a few scattered questions, and noting a few specific sorts of denials had directed them thus far. No doubt a bit of gossip was spreading; but that was sometimes the point of asking.

Aitas: Lieutenant Seleya, I’d appreciate knowing if there are any notable resources in the area you can detect. Ones that might prove useful to a society at a somewhat different technological stage as well.

She tilted her head as a group of locals bustled past them, each carrying a cloth-wrapped package about the size of their heads. There were at least four species that she’d noticed thus far, and a variety of objects. Pottery seemed especially popular. Though she wouldn't have put that as her first guess for what had drawn the UAW here.

Seleya: Response

Aitas: And Lieutenant Moore, I’d like for your analysis of the defensiveness of this position. Especially as it relates to technological stages. What would you say it’s intended to defend against?

The sort of defenses one put up against say, troops sent via the transporter and equipped with disruptor weapons were very different then what would exist to stop an orbital bombardment or enemies traveling in directly.

And  feeling cornered, overwhelmed, did often push one to desperate measures.

Moore: Response

Aitas: Thank you. Let us go see if this scientist is willing to meet with us. I promise I’ll try not to get myself shot. I had more than enough injuries when I was in Starfleet.

Let alone their last mission. Seleya knew of her past experience, though Aitas was less sure about Moore. They’d not worked together much, though having been assigned to Amity spoke well of him.

Seleya/Moore: Response

The ground was muddy beneath their feet, with spiraling paths to elevate travelers up out of it. They seemed to be made from a mixture of materials, mostly some sort of thick cords woven together. The buildings were made of stone and brick, and there was a distinct scent of waste in the air.

One building stood taller than the rest, and its exterior looked to have once been covered in metal, though only fragments of it now remained.

Once they stepped inside, the light turned to a pale blue. There were counters and tables scattered around, most empty. There were only benches, and those looked to be secured to the floor. They’d likely arrived in the middle of the workday, or what passed for it, but it was still remarkably quiet.

There were gaps in the ceiling as well; they let light shine down only over the more distant parts of the room.

The emotions that had milled around them were not friendly, but none of them radiated immediate danger. Aitas sat down at the counter, near the other patrons, though in a position that gave her a good view of all the doors. She then turned to the figure behind said counter. Her posture was easy, open, and confident, despite her muddied boots. She wasn’t there as a threat, but nor was she there as some frightened penitent.

She spoke, as she often did in such cases, in an El-Aurian trade language. Not all of the planets, or civilizations in the Delta Quadrant spoke such, but it was more likely than most.

And, given what the representative of the UAW had spoken in, it provided a bit more separation.

Aitas: Since we’re guests here, what would you recommend? I’ve been told by a friend that  Olvaren is an excellent choice. And a traditional one for meeting new acquaintances.

Aitas glanced between the two Starfleet officers for their opinions, then returned her gaze to its previous position.
