Lt. Robin Hopper: I Wonder

((Amity Outpost – Medical Center, Bashir Wing – Exam Room 4))
Wong: Robin? Is that really you?
Hopper: Surprise! ::Moving the PADD out of the way:: Can you believe it?!
Robin moved the PADD sideways enough to allow Ikaia to catch sight of the right side of her face, where she wore a big dumb grin. It might have been a couple of years since she had last seen Cadet Ikaia Wong, but that didn’t matter.
Wong: I can’t believe it either! I haven’t seen you since the Academy!
Robin smiled, recalling those days fondly. While she’d never known Ikaia as closely as their mutual friend, Alieth, she remembered the jovial Klingon’s passion for his work well. All the same, it was still a shock to see him here and now. So much had happened since San Francisco.
Hopper: ::Lowering the PADD to her lap:: Look at you! Chief Medical Officer Wong, oh my god. This place is incredible! Way nicer than the Wall Street’s! ::Thinking:: Uhh, don’t tell Doctor Larx I said that… You guys don’t talk, do you? Ah! Look at me, I’m rambling. ::Clearing her throat:: How are you?
Wong: Oh, things are fine. I’ve been enjoying my time at Amity! It’s very different from serving on a starship. Heh… for starters, the food’s better.
Robin leaned back, setting the PADD down on the biobed and resting casually on her arms outstretched behind her.
Hopper: ::Chuckling:: That’s easy to believe. The Wall Street’s replicators have been on the fritz since her last stay in drydock. Engineering did their best to keep up with things, but the allure of non-replicated food was practically enough cause for me to request the transfer here on its own! ::Smiling:: I’m sure the medical facilities are far superior as well.
Wong: I can’t complain. The sickbay I had on the Veritas was just a fraction of the size of my Medical Centre here. And I have access to more resources than I’ve had in the past. I even have my own lab now!
Robin nodded. As much as she enjoyed the idea that it had been fresh food that had drawn her to apply for a transfer to Amity Outpost – the reality was that it had, in fact, been the station’s scientific facilities. Even a deep space science vessel couldn’t compete with the scope of what Amity had to offer. Twenty-four decks of Science and Research Center?! It was almost too much to believe.
Hopper: I understand the appeal. ::Grinning:: I have a looot of project proposals to write over the next few months. Might as well put this station’s facilities through their paces, right? Speaking of which - we might as well get through the formalities…
She handed Ikaia the PADD with her completed intake form and sat forward once more. Despite their desire to catch up, she did still need to have her medical evaluation done.
Ikaia pulled out his tricorder and began his scans.
Wong: But you. It’s been a while since I last saw you! How have you been?
Robin watched with cheerful intrigue as Ikaia began his work. Only passingly familiar with most of the gadgets at his disposal, she enjoyed trying to guess what each one’s purpose and name were as they whirred around her.
Hopper: Oh boy. Well, let’s see… As you know, I received my placement orders aboard the Wall Street. I’ll admit it – that was a lucky break. Lieutenant Montgomery really knows her stuff – oh, she’s the Chief Science Officer. I feel like I learned nearly as much there, in two years of field work, as I did in my four years at the Academy!
Wong: Response
Hopper: I’m sure serving on the Veritas was similar. Being assigned to the Shoals kind of seems like being ‘thrown in the deep end’ to me! ::Noting Ikaia working:: So, how am I looking, Doc? Any weird parasites or alien tech implants I should be aware of?
Wong: Response
Hopper: Do you keep up with Alieth much? I hear from her now and then, but we’re both so busy – well, I’m sure you know. You’re probably even busier.
