And she ran. Boy did she run. Because what she had just said... she wanted to get away from it, run away from this failed situation. But she (and Wil) couldn't run forever. And the look on his panting face when tge had stopped told her everything she thought she needed to know, that she was in trouble...

Iko: ::panting:: #$%@ me... sorry...

Sorry didn't seem like enough.

Ukinix: At attention.  ::Panting:: Right now!  *&^%*&(*# stand at attention, Lieutenant!!!

She shot up, shoulders back, arms by her sides, and her whole body tightened up in a wirl of a knotted stomach.

Iko: AYE SIR!

Wil looked around, before leaning on the now nearby padded goalpost, still having to catch his breath a bit more. Mind you, so did she, but she dared not open her mouth, taking short breaths through her nose. This was probably more trouble than she intially thought....

Ukinix: ::Under his breath:: #$%^@ sake.  I should take away your extra pip right now.  Other superior officers might.

She gathered enough strength to say a sentence aloud, afraid that she might make the situation worse.

oO "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" Oo

Iko: I sincerely apologise sir, it was uncalled for.

Wil- Commander Ukinix looked at Bec again, the disappointment still standing, completely unshifted. Not for better, but also not for worse, as he placed his hands behind his back, to make sure this issue was completely and firmly addressed efore being dropped... if it would be dropped at all...

Ukinix: Bec, you’re a fine officer and you’re going to have a long career in Starfleet.  I know I’m pretty laid back, but some other superior officers in Starfleet aren’t as laid back and are less forgiving as I am.

He moved around a bit, her eyes following his movements towards the south, and towards her.

Ukinix: I also know this is a social situation in a holodeck, but you brought up an operational matter, and disrespected a superior officer in the process.  You just can’t do that, and not expect repercussions.  The chain of command exists for a reason, mainly so that we *all* don’t get killed and can protect citizens and our fellow officers.

Iko: I understand. Sir.

Ukinix: Which brings me to my next point.

oO Oh $#@%... Oo

She closed her eyes, half expecting some kind of slap or something to go with the "next point" W- Commander Ukinix was going to make. There was none.

Ukinix: If you don’t think, for a *second*, that I didn’t consider what might happen to the crew, or me, when I took that shuttle out, then you don’t know me that well.  ::Clenched law, inhale through nose, before exhale::  The crew’s, “my” crew’s as you put it, safety was *first and foremost* on my mind.  First and foremost!  The Indy needed to get out of the anomaly.  I could send out someone to their potential death, like I did with-

Wil - Commander Ukinix - paused for a moment, Bec still watching his face, but not daring to move her neck to look where he was looking. It felt like the kind of pause you make before you say something you don't wanna say, but the reason it felt like that could just be all the tension in her body filtering her perception of this rather crap situation.

Ukinix: ::hard swallow:: -like I did with three of you on the Miombo.  And we lost a brand-new Ensign.  ::Turning back to Bec:: That was the first time I had to write a letter to a family of a Starfleet officer to tell them about the death of their child.  I promise you it’s not fun.  ::Pause, another exhale through nose, looking at Bec:: On the Indy I made a command decision, to get the crew out and home.  Every single crew member was already focused on their tasks to get us out.  I did what I knew I had to do.  I’m sure there are many commanding officers who would have done the same.  There was nothing “heroic” about it.  I hate to get all Vulcan on you, but it was a logical decision.

She nodded slightly as he seemed to move about, possibly shaking out his own tension.

Ukinix: And you’re right.  Everything’s not “just fine”.  Because it wasn’t, certainly not in that anomaly.  And not every situation we will face in our career will be “just fine”.  That’s why we trained for no-win situations at the Academy! ::Pointing at holodeck doors would be located if they were visible:: You think Janeway and her crew had an easy run getting seventy-thousand light years home in seven years?  Far from it, Lieutenant!

Iko: U-Understood sir.

oO ::grimrace:: Don't stutter... Oo

Hopefully that was near the end of it...

Ukinix: Before I move on to the next matters to address, do you have any questions or anything else on your mind about what I’ve said so far.

She had one.

oO Do you... Do you want my second Pip? Oo

But she tried shaking that thought off the best she could without actually shaking. It was "I should"... not "I will" or "I want to"... but it still felt like that second pip was barely fastened to her uniform and ready to fall off at any moment... and often forgetting it was even there probably didn't help.

Iko: No Sir.

Ukinix: response

Iko: As you were saying?

She attempted to prepare herself for another blow, knowing full well she probably wouldn't be able to.

Ukinix: response

Iko: Understood Commander.
