Ukinix: oO ::Recalling song:: It’s a beau-ti-ful day… don’t let it get awaaaay… you’re on the road… But you’ve got des-tin-ation… Oo

Wil stopped when he looked at a print of dotty painting which looked like a circus setting.  In the middle a person looked like they were wearing a cone on their head, and playing a trombone.  For a brief moment Wil considered whether he should learn to play an instrument like that, but quickly dismissed the idea with a “nah” under his breath.

A plaque underneath the pring read “La Parade du Cirque, Georges Seurat, 1888, Earth” and provided a description of the painting which Wil didn’t read.

Looking ahead, he saw Rivi sitting on a bench.  With a smile, he placed his hands behind his back and made his way towards the Ambassador who was reading something from a PADD.

Ukinix: G’day Ambassador, you look pre-occupied.

Rivi turned around to speak to him.

Vataix: Oh, hi, Wil! I'm just reading a letter from my friend. Actually, can you make sure when she arrives, she gets the full VIP treatment. ::An evil little smirk spread across Rivi's face.:: I know she'll just hate it!

Oh god.  Another Betazoid noble?  Sometimes Wil wondered if the Betazoid government were attempting a slow, friendly, polite coup of Amity Outpost.

Or maybe her friend wasn’t a noble.  Either way, his coup theory still held water.

Ukinix: Of course, Madame Ambassador, I’ll arrange that with Keehani.  Someone she might know?

She pressed a button on her PADD and showed a picture of a woman with the distinct black Betazoid eyes to Wil.  His eyes opened wide for a moment.  He’d already declared his sensibly unrequited infatuation and admiration to Tri’lea Polgonz, and now here was a picture of *another* attractive Betazoid woman.  Was this all part of the Amity Outpost coup strategy?  Assimilation of the First Officer by means of gorgeous?

Vataix: Her name is Tani Lekasa. She's a Betazoid mediator.

He kept staring at the picture.

Ukinix: oO She’s a stunner. Oo

Vataix: Yes, she's always been a looker. I told her she could go into modeling, but she just dismisses any praise I give her. Maybe you can tell her, and she'll finally believe it.

Wil bit his bottom lip when Rivi responded to his thought.  He’d been getting better at containing his stray thoughts around the Betazoids, but sometimes it was hard.  Especially with “Tani” looking back at him.

Ukinix: Well, um, she looks, um – it’s not for me to tell her – I mean, I guess I *could*, you know, say “hello” and show her around the Outpost…

Rivi’s attention seemed to wane as she looked past Wil’s shoulder.

Vataix: Anyway, looks like we better get started. Thanks for setting this up with the curator. It's nice to get out of the office.

Thankful for the change of conversation, Wil finally wrestled his eyes away from the picture of the Betazoid mediator.

Ukinix: No worries, Keehani told me you’ve been spending far too much time in there, she and I are going to make an effort to get you out more.

As Ambassadorial Aide, Keehani would have a far more lasered focus on it, Rivi didn’t know what she was in for.  That made him smile wickedly for a moment.

Wil stood to the side with the rest of the assembled crew as Rivi made her way to a podium.

Vataix: Welcome everyone, and thank you for coming! Before you head off on your mission to support the USS Kitty Hawk's journey out into the Delta Quadrant, I wanted to first make sure you all received the proper recognition for your fine work over these last few months. So, let's begin.

She looked down at her PADD and called up the first set of names.

Vataix: First, Lieutenants Reade and Kivik, please come up here.

Reade/Kivik: Response

Vataix: There were many precarious situations during the expo, but none moreso than a potential accident that would have harmed thousands. For your work in preventing that tragedy, I have named you both to receive the Legion of Merit! Congratulations, you two!

Reade/Kivik: Response

Wil joined in the applause for the engineer and the science boffin.

Vataix: Next, Lieutenant Ceciri Ariadust? In recognition of your injuries sustained, you are to receive the Purple Heart.

Ariadust: Response

Wil applauded Ceciri, hoping that she had recovered from her injuries and that all was OK with her.

Vataix: Next, I'd like to recognize Lieutenant Wong. Mr. Wong, if you'll please approach?

Wong: Response

Vataix: Lieutenant, you helped solve a mystery and bring a corrupt Romulan captain to justice. For that, you shall receive the Starfleet Investigation Ribbon. You also helped save the lives of injured racers during the rally, along with Mr. Reade. For that, both you and Mr. Reade shall receive the Lifesaving Ribbon.

Wil joined in with Bec’s enthusiastic applause.

Wong: Response

Reade: Response

Vataix: Next, I'd like to recognize Lieutenant Commanders Wil Ukinix and John Carter as well as Ensign Rebecca Iko. Wil, John, Bec, would you come up here?

Ukinix: ::Gesturing:: After you two.

Carter: Response

Wil followed Bec and John to the podium.

Vataix: Although we may not agree with them or their past actions, we have a duty as Federation representatives and officers to serve by our ideals, and that includes protecting those against harm. For protecting the Vidiian ship Indefatigable when they were attacked on their way to Amity, you three shall receive the Good Conduct Ribbon.

Ukinix: ::Nod:: Thank you, Ambassador.

Carter: Response

Iko: Thank you Ambassador

Wil gave both John and Bec a friendly nudge to say “well done.”

Vataix: Finally, Ensign Iko. You have served with distinction during your time at Amity since you arrived from the academy. I hereby promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, with all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities that come with it. Congratulations, Lieutenant!

Wil began to applause, but then playfully covered his ears when Bec let at a high pitched “eeeeeeee!” of delight, before she caught herself and stopped by placing her hand over her mouth.  That made him chuckle; if anyone was going to enjoy a public outburst of joy like that, it was going to be Rivi.

Iko: Thanks... oh thanks so much I-...

Ukinix: ::Patting Bec on the shoulder:: Congrats, mate.  Or should I say, *Lieutenant* Iko.

Any: Response

Vataix: Good job everyone and good luck out there when you head off on the Independence! Have fun and get back safe!

The rally and the expo may have been a partial garbage fire, but from a few bad situations had come joy.  The crew assembled were the main reason for that.

It indeed was a beautiful day.

TAG! END
