(( Dr. Orrey’s Examination Room, Crusher Wing, Medical Section, Amity Outpost ))
The last week had been a blur. The station was slowly getting back together. Repair had begun across the board, from the science labs, Engineering, the weapons systems, and as he passed a repair crew, so too was the Medical Wing being repaired. They were all working hard to bring everything back online…
So had he, even with everything that had happened. He could have taken the week off; there was precedent for it. He could have easily taken time off, a few days, or even a week or two… He planned on it, but after the station’s defenses were back to acceptable levels. Which meant long days, and even long nights, working deep inside Amity. Stressful work that needed to be done.
Which is why Kaito ignored his upset stomach. He clearly wasn’t eating the best, or was skipping meals, which was causing his stomach to be upset. Then there was the fatigue and headache; once again, stress. But when a slight fever hit, Kaito started to grow a little concerned. Maybe a cold? Most versions of it had been cured, but it always seemed to pop back up… But nothing common replicator meds couldn’t fix, and for a few days he seemed to be doing better…
Until this morning, when he noticed some hair had fallen out while scrubbing up in the shower. That… was concerning. That is why he contacted Dr. Orrey for a check up… Because all the signs before could be stress, but add in the hair loss and an odd rash… That was radiation sickness. Okay, maybe the rash was chafing from crawling in Jeffries tubes all day, but still, Kaito was due for his check up in a few weeks anyway. Better now than never.
He stopped at the examination room, noting Dr. Orrey was already inside. He didn’t waste any time waiting, pressing the chime.
Orrey: Response
Moore: Good morning, Doctor. I hope your day is going well?
He said, looking a little pale and exhausted, as his fever had also returned.
Orrey: Response
Moore: Eh. I look that bad? One of my tac crewmembers said I looked absolutely glowing this morning? Maybe glowing in the dark.
He chuckled a little, but stopped as his stomach started to churn due to the laughing. The good news is, unlike the many exotic forms of the “common” cold, if caught early enough, radiation sickness was easily cured. That is assuming he hadn’t already had a lethal dose, like you get handling an exposed warp core, but he would have died days ago if that was the case. Nope, this was a “normal” case of radiation sickness, yet needed professional medical attention to repair the genetic damage.
Orrey: Response
Moore: Well, I also know I am due for my check up, too, so… might as well get two irradiated birds with one hypospray?
