Lt Cmdr Wil Ukinix - Let Them Eat Cake

((Diplomatic Staff Work Area, Level 14, Copernicus Center)

Wil made his way into the open plan office area, towards Keehani where she was standing at her desk.  A holographic chart was projecting from the back of the tabletop, right next to an upright console screen.

Ukinix: Keehani.

Deep in thought, she turned her head to look at her cousin.  Wil handed one of the “Brew Continuum” drinking mugs in his hand to her.

Ukinix: There ya’ go.

Keehani: ::Relieved tone:: Oh, thank you.

She instantly took the cup, and sipped the steaming contents.

Keehani: ::Satisfied exhale:: That is good coffee.  One of the galactic constants of species across the Federation.  ::Turning to look at Wil’s mug::  That excludes you I assume still?

Wil lifted his mug, before taking a sip oh his hot chocolate and then replying.

Ukinix: Yep.  I’m sticking to my new year’s resolution.  No coffee.

Keehani: ::Turning attention back to screen:: Well, you’re much braver than I am.

Reade: =/\= Scotty to Lt.Cmdr Ukinix, I need your and Ambassador Vataix’s approval to reboot the 3 generators, this will bring the 3rd one online after repairs were completed on it. =/\=

With a smirk, Keehani turned again to look at Wil.

Ukinix: Never a dull a moment, huh.

Keehani: ::Raised eyebrows:: Are you sure you should have given up coffee? 

With a small smile and shake of the head, Wil tapped his combadge.

 

Ukinix: =/\= G’day Scotty.  I can approve on behalf of the Ambassador.  Come up to my office. =/\= 

 

Reade: =/\= Understood, I meet you in your office, Kivik is tagging along, as I was giving him a tour of engineering when this happened. =/\= 

 

Ukinix: =/\= Sure!  Bring ‘em up with you.  Ukinix out. =/\=

Keehani: ::Whispering discreetly to Wil:: No, it’s “nem”.

Ukinix: I said “nem”.  Didn’t I?

 

Keehani: No you didn’t-

Ukinix: I did, I said-

Keehani: -you said “em”. 

Ukinix: “Nem”.  ::squinting eyes:: I did say “’em”, didn’t I.  Well, it’s short for “nem”.

Keehani: Say it with me Wil.  “Nem”.

Ukinix: I’m just - ::frustrated sigh:: - shortening.  “Bring nem up.”  “Bring ‘em up”.    See?  Same difference.

Keehani blinked her eyes at her cousin a moment.

Keehani: Same… “difference”.  Did they not teach you Federation Standard at school?

Ukinix: No, it means- ::palms up:: Forget it.  ::Heading towards elevator::  I gotta run.

Keehani: ::Smirking, calling out to Wil to correct him:: “Got to” run.

Wil sensed that Keehani was trying to get a rise out of him.

Ukinix: Yeah, yeah.


((Sometime later, XO’s office, Level 3, Copernicus Center))

The door chime sounded.

Ukinix: Come in!

Reade: Response

 

Kivik: I am just tagging along, Sir. Don’t mind me.

 

Ukinix: Nah, you’re ‘right.  I’ll get us some water. 

Reade: Response

 

Kivik: Was there a particular reason you wanted me here, Scotty?

Ukinix: ::To replicator:: Three glasses of water.

As the replicator went to work, Wil turned back to look at Scotty.

Ukinix: You want authorisation for that third generator, mate?

Reade: Response

Ukinix: Well we’re going to have that many people here, I’m not surprised-

Wil cut himself off when he turned back to the replicator.  In the replicator’s bay were three pink cupcakes.

Kivik/Reade: Response

Ukinix: That’s odd.  Are there any glitches in the replicator systems at the moment?  Knock on effect from all the changes in readiness for the expo maybe?

Wil reached into the replicator, and handed Scotty and Kivik each a cupcake.

Kivik/Reade: Response

Ukinix: Alright, so what’s the plan for these generators.  We can’t reboot them at the same time.

 

Reade: Response

Ukinix: What will the impact on the Basement be, Kivi?

 

Reade: Response
