Elarrapal had been so close to leaving. Her wound was treated, the remaining stump of her arm as well-sealed as it could be, and she’d grabbed a spare coat and was halfway down a corridor when the alarm sounded.

Something from Uropal, so far as she could tell, but the doctors hadn’t been communicative and the guard even less so.

They’d only given her one guard, but since they’d put her in a door with one entrance, not a single window, and then promptly held her down and given her something strong enough to make her head spin, it seemed like more than enough.

Even the bed flowed into the floor, and couldn’t have been removed if she had had both arms left to her.

The door opened, a flash of brighter light in her blurred vision, and three vague figures holding some sort of waste bin.

Elarrapal: Ah. So that’s how I am to be disposed of. Will you cut me to scraps as well?

Moore/Stros/Varati: Response

Their voices raised an echo in her thoughts, a sense of familiarity that warred with her blurred, dizzied state, with how the doctors and guards had thrown her in there as if she were merely some problem to be locked away.

Desperation won. She charged at the bin, hitting it with her (relatively) good arm; there was some strange, unexpected weight in it and though the lid popped and a smear of something green slid out it did not topple.

Elarrapal caught a flash of something pale and pink that her eyes couldn’t resolve into any proper whole before she stumbled and saw only the floor.

The guard raised his voice from the other side of the closed door.

Guard: Need me to make her cooperate?

Ukinix/Moore/Stros/Varati: Response

Perhaps it was the shock, or perhaps the repetition of voices, but she finally recognized some portion of who stood before her.

She lowered her voice and slid back from the door.

Elarrapal: You were at Imeris, weren’t you? I’m afraid you’ve already missed your friends and their…credentials. Though they are not long gone.

She held up the stump of her arm, which had been sealed cleanly enough to hold through that awkward, bruising impact. If not for the pain, the bruising, she would have been certain this was some sort of waking nightmare, the kind where carved stone oozed black rot out from its very core.

Or perhaps it was still a nightmare and Imeris had caught itself in some great dream, roots intertwined through all the world to make it feel as real as flesh.

Ukinix/Moore/Stros/Varati: Response

She kept her voice very low.

Elarrapal: They went to speak with Procla, and perhaps Uropal through her. They sought Norsel, and to know what rests beneath the great tree. Take me from here and I will show a path along the quietest of roots. Such will not ask questions of us.

Though she couldn’t say the same for herself. The questions that had already settled into her thoughts were starting to roam there, like insects cutting a pattern between the layers of a leaf.
