Jansen motioned his hand along and stood up as she started to struggle with her boot.
Varati: I'm not sure exactly which floor panel on the bridge of the Indy I kicked this time... and with the strange leather sandals on Uwe II and all the stress, I didn't even notice. But when I wore my new heels to lunch at the tea house yesterday, my big toe suddenly started to hurt. And it's swollen too. Maybe I kicked too hard this time?!
Orrey: ::letting out a bit of a whistle:: Well I can tell you right now, heels are out.
Varati: But! But without... I mean, at 1.55m / 5' 1", nobody would recognize me as an officer! Everyone would think I stole the uniform or something... Besides, I've never had any problems there before.
Orrey: ::Reaching for his tricorder on his desk:: Lets take a look. Prop it up on that other chair there.
Jansen removed the scanning wand from the top of the tricorder and started looking over her foot.
Orrey: So you think you kicked some deck plating?
That was a calculating face of someone who didn’t want to answer him.
Varati: Well, when I'm impatient, I often tap my right foot on the floor. And sometimes, rarely oO what a lie Oo, I might kick a wall panel out of slight frustration!? ::pause:: I hope the toe isn't broken? I mean, it suddenly started hurting.
The doctor waved the wand over the foot and toe before nodding at the on screen confirmation.
Orrey: Well, not broken…completely. Cracked it up real well though.
Jansen replaced the tricorder on his desk and crossed back to sit in his chair.
Varati: Oh, okay… And what does that mean? Can you help me with a suitable treatment? … And yes, I can do without heels for a while. Reluctantly.
The cute sheepskin ankle boots were also very cosy – but not very fashionable.
Orrey: Good news is I don’t have to reduce a fracture and you don’t have to sit through it. It isn’t fun for either of us.
Varati: Response?
Orrey: I am going wrap the toe, and show you how to do it as well so you can repeat it each morning.
Varati: Response?
Orrey: ::leaning back in his chair:: I want to give you an open boot but I don’t like that on duty rotation. ::drumming his fingers on the desktop:: So what I will do is give you a slightly wider, flat, standard boot. When you aren’t working you need to be resting it. Its going to take near to a month to heal it anyway.
Varati: Response?
Orrey: When you have the chance, have it elevated above that six chambered heart of yours. You can ice it for 15 or so minutes at a time before taking the ice away for 30, yes?
Varati: Response?
