Wong: So tell me, Doctor Pearson, how do you feel about hiking the Diamond Head or surfing?
Pearson: I would love to go hiking with a friendly companion.
Keehani: ::Raised finger:: Don’t forget surfing! Ikaia here is a natural.
Well, Keehani wasn’t wrong. While he wouldn’t say he’s the best surfer there is. He could say that he was certainly skilled at it and enjoyed the sport. He did enjoy the talking up.
Wong: How do you feel about that and well…. Everything really? What's important to you?
Keehani chewed her bottom lip a little.
Keehani: ::Whispering to Ikaia:: Just take it slow, keep the questions simple! Don’t go for a Vulcan mind meld straight away.
Pearson: ::Big smile:: I can see what’s happening here. Your matchmaker friend doesn’t understand that intellect and care for others are very attractive attributes in a person. ::Smiling:: Along with forehead ridges.
Ikaia paused. His cheeks were starting to turn a bright pink. He raised his hands to cover the lower half of his face. He glanced at Keehani.
Wong: Oh he's good.
Keehani: ::Encouraging tone:: Mmm hmm.
Pearson: I’m only as good as the people I spend time with. ::Smiling, To Ikaia:: Or person.
Keehani: Well, Ikaia. I fixed your program for you. You’re welcome. ::She stepped a little closer to Ikaia, and whispered discreetly to Ikaia:: And he’s gorgeous!
Wong: As I said, I'm more interested in a mind than what someone looks like…
He may not have started out with the idea of dating a hologram. In fact, it wasn’t something he ever considered. But this one was starting to win him over.
Pearson: ::To Ikaia:: Then what’s say we grab a drink? I’m sure we will have much to discuss.
Before Ikaia could say anything, Keehani proudly put her hands on her hips.
Keehani: My work here is done. Enjoy your program, Ikaia. I promise I won’t tell a soul.
Pearson: Program?
Uh oh! He didn’t exactly want Dr. Pearson to be too self aware.
Wong: Ah yes! She was helping me with a program for the Rec Room. But uh, I’d be up for grabbing a drink.
Keehani: ::Hands on hips, proud tone:: Computer. Exit doors.
The doors to the holodeck shimmered into existence, just near the wall of the hall. After a satisfied nod that made her ponytail flick up in the air, she walked towards the doors which slid open for her, revealing the hallway to Level 10 outside.
She turned over her shoulder and gave one final look and instruction to the CMO.
Keehani: Have fun, Ikaia.
Wong: Oh well! I think I will. Thank you.
And that was the start of something Ikaia hadn’t done since the first year at the Academy - a date. He made absolutely sure remote viewing was disabled and that the holodeck doors were locked. He eventually had a wonderful evening over drinks with Andrew. All the while, there was something about his date that seemed familiar. Although, he couldn’t say what it was. However, he did have fun and for a while could forget the stresses of the real world. Perhaps this was also something that he needed.
And the evening may have ended with a kiss.
