((Lab Corridor - Uwezo Warp Development Facility))

Galanis: ::quietly:: Confirmed again. Nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen… though there’s an oddity showing up on more through scans. Not unlike a pollen, but its molecular structure is almost pure dinitrogen pentoxide. Saturation isn’t high enough to be a danger yet, but…

Hopper: Response?

Rosek-Skyfire: That’s a bright journey, Program Lead. It’s clear why you were selected for this honor.

Saavei: Yet. ::to Galanis and Hopper quietly, in agreement:: We shall have to keep our eyes open.

Swallowing hard, Niev found a whole new reason to wrestle with their composure. Their timing couldn’t have been better - or worse. They made a small show of reaching up their hand to adjust their unfamiliarly textured hair, passing the screens and readouts by their eyes for an up close look at what they were seeing.

Galanis: ::quietly, to Robin and Saavei:: There’s still too little information to say for sure what it is. There’s no present and immediate danger of a reaction. But I do agree - we should all be monitoring atmospherics in addition to our other scans.

Hopper: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: ::smiles:: The reports don’t do this place justice. ::to the others:: Have our questions regarding the branches been answered?

Saavei: Mine have for now, Senior Minister. Thank you.

Nodding their head slowly, Niev moved back toward Lael and the Project Lead, sweeping their gaze around the area as though they expected to find what they were looking for. Of course, there was nothing obvious. It would be pressing their luck far too hard to ask to be allowed into the more hidden areas of the facility. Behind their curt reply, Niev’s gears rapidly turned, trying to puzzle out just how they were going to investigate further.

Galanis: Yes. We are ready to move on.

Hopper: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: I see. Where shall we proceed to next?

Saavei: Pardon but I was still hoping we could see the ship itself more closely. It is... inspiring to be so near. Since I first read the reports about the project, I have followed it with great interest.

The Vulcan had caught Niev off guard for the first time, their eyebrows raising up as they looked toward Saavei. It was a gamble, but a lucrative one - getting closer to the ship itself didn’t just mean the chance for a closer look at Uwezo science, as excited as Niev was about the prospect. It meant a chance to see if the heart of the project itself was being targeted or not. They made a mental note to thank her later.

Galanis: Yes, there are many projects here, but the trunk of this facility is clear. All branches stem from the trunk. Our understanding of the growth would be incomplete without seeing it.

Hopper/Greeta: Response

Business and pleasure always seemed to find a way to conflict, even when your idea of pleasure was getting to examine newly invented warp technology. Niev wanted nothing more than to dedicate all of their time and effort into documenting every last inch of the ship, devouring any design documents or material sciences they could start digging into. They were here to learn about the Uwezo first and foremost, after all.

But the tricorder readings loomed over their attention like a storm on the horizon. Niev was chancing glances down at the tricorder whenever they could, keeping true to their promise to keep an eye on things.

Saavei: It is... truly remarkable work, Program Lead.

Galanis: Yes… the science and engineering that must have gone into it is amazing.

They tried to keep the bittersweet tone out of their voice. There was always some sort of crisis standing in front of the science, wasn’t there?

Hopper/Rosek-Skyfire/Greeta: Response?

Saavei: ::as if to herself:: To be chosen as a pilot for this ship would be a great honor.

Out of the corner of their eye, Niev spied the Vulcan glancing toward a terminal. It wasn’t hard to catch on to what she was trying to do when she spoke. Turning toward Vaarig, Niev made the question even more direct, hoping to buy Saavei the time she needed to move into position.

Galanis: Has the pilot been chosen at all yet?

Hopper/Rosek-Skyfire/Greeta: Responses?

Saavei: Would it be possible to view the most recent stress tests for the engine,. Program Lead? ::indicating her head towards the terminal:: I recall the project initially had a problem with the infusion stimulators? Your reports since then have been more than adequate but I was hoping you could show me how you and your team compensated for the power shifts. It seemed a creative solution.

The distraction Saavei was creating on her own now seemed as good of a chance as any to check in with Robin and Lael - with the activity around the ship, there was less chance any of their more clandestine activities would be noticed.

Galanis: If it’s acceptable to you, I’d like a moment to discuss where we’ll begin with the Minister and her Assistant.

Hopper/Rosek-Skyfire/Greeta: Responses?

Trusting Saavei to handle Vaarig’s attention for the moment, Niev turned toward the others - the ‘minister’ and her ‘assistant’. It was weird enough to think of the First Officer and Amity’s newest commander as anything else, making the brief, hushed dropping of the mask a strange sort of relief. They were a science officer giving a report now. Hopefully, their secretive greeting would come off as the standard diplomatic aside Niev was hoping for.

Galanis: It’s the same here as it was in the corridor. Steady, faint traces of that pollen-like substance in the air.

Hopper/Saavei/Rosek-Skyfire/Greeta: Responses?

Galanis: I can’t say for certain what it is. Only a potentially very high energy reaction, if concentrations of the dinitrogen pentoxide become high enough to act as a kind of solid-state oxidizer on the hydrogen. There’s no telling how quickly that may or may not happen until we know the source. Whether it’s some kind of recurring propellant leak or something more nefarious, like a thermobaric weapon, I will be blunt - it’s a potential threat to the entire facility.

Hopper/Saavei/Rosek-Skyfire/Greeta: Responses?

Galanis: Should we press Project Lead Greeta more directly on any suspicious activities? He does seem rather… on edge.

Hopper/Saavei/Rosek-Skyfire/Greeta: Responses?
