((Derelict Vaadwaur Ship – Underspace Corridor))
Renaie heard their own footsteps echo through the corridor for corridor on corridor, and a feeling rose in their gut that they were getting close to the medical bay.
Hopper: Renaie, given their hull plating and the interference we were experiencing from the debris in the underspace corridor, what are our odds of Flint getting a reliable transporter lock on us – or any potential survivors? I don’t want to find ourselves in an emergency beam-out situation only to wind up inside out or smooshed together into some sort of chimera…
Shortrith: I have a feeling it'll be low, but if we-
Lieutenant Galanis' tricorder interrupted Renaie, and they frowned at it slightly, light-heartedly.
oO ::jokingly:: Rude of you to interrupt, tricorder. Oo
Galanis: There - ahead. Are you seeing this on your scanners as well? Active power conduits. It seems this ship may not be as dead in the water as we thought.
Renaie tensed at the news.
Hopper: Can you isolate the source? Identify the type of power signature? Lifesigns?
Shortrith: Vaguely. There is one lifesign, and the power signature is seemingly life support.
Galanis: We should be careful about that. Energy is energy.
Commander Hopper indicated the end of the corridor as the crew drew nearer.
Hopper: It’s coming from that way – the medical bay. Looks like our hunch about that being our best bet for finding survivors was right. Now let’s see who ‘left the light on’ and whether they’re still around…
oO Hopefully I can help them if so. Oo
Hopper: I’ll enter the room first. Shortrith, you’ll follow. Niev, give us a few seconds to assess the status of the room and then join us. In case we spring some sort of trap, I’m counting on your door-busting strength to get us out of there.
Shortrith: Yes, Commander.
Renaie followed close behind the First Officer as she opened the door. The Klingon raised their eyebrows in surprise as they noticed a shimmering, fluctuating forcefield not too far in.
Hopper: Niev, what’s this field made of? Can we pass through it, or…? And where’s it coming from?
Galanis: It seems to be a standard containment field, likely for security or-
Their brain automatically went into focus as they noticed the sole survivor at one of the biobeds - no, stations that were like biobeds, they weren't the same - struggling to breathe.
oO I need to get there and help them. Oo
Hopper: Holy crap – there’s our survivor. Renaie, any chance they’re treatable? Can they at least be stabilized?
Shortrith: I'd like to think so. I need to go help them.
Maybe in an act of desperation, maybe in an act of foolishness, Renaie ran headfirst into the forcefield, and slightly chuckled at themself for the plan not working.
Galanis: Are you all right, doctor? You should be more cautious. A barrier tuned to give one species a minor shock might be much more dangerous for another.
Renaie gave them an "I'm fine" shrug.
oO I can wait, this person can't. Oo
Was that the healthiest sentiment? Probably not, but right now Renaie missed the part where that was their problem.
Hopper: Response
Shortrith: The sooner we open this, the sooner I can help this person. Any chance either of you could pull some miracle and open this?
Galanis: Are we sure a miracle is what we want right now? Isn’t there a possibility this forcefield is here for a good reason?
Hopper: Response
When the forcefield eventually dissipated, Renaie full-pelt sprinted over to the Vaadwaur and began to provide medical assistance.
They raked their memory for some knowledge - if any - on the Vaadwaur, at least what they learned in the Academy and uni.
Shortrith: Thanks to whoever did that.
Galanis: Don’t be too thankful. It’s the ship itself. Systems are still in the process of failing. I think it’s safe to assume this attack was quite recent… and that we’ve arrived just on time, for better or worse.
Renaie's face fell a little at that. oO We don't have much time. Oo
Hopper: Response
Galanis: Whatever we’re going to do, there’s no reliable way to predict if or when this vessel will deteriorate further. Lieutenant Shortrith, is the survivor… awakenable?
oO You mean revivable? I hope so. Oo
Shortrith: I hope so. If they're still breathing, they're still alive. I'll need to get them on a biobed that I can understand the language of to truly tell.
Renaie stared at the console of the v-biobed (for want of a better word), trying to make heads or tails of the language. It appeared to be similar to Klingon, but Renaie couldn't read any of it. oO Qo'noS is in the Beta Quadrant anyway, it's unlikely that there would be the connection. Oo
Hopper: Response
Galanis: I’m picking up residual traces of some very familiar fields, Commander. This Vaadwaur may have been brought out of stasis only recently. Lieutenant Shortrith would have to take a closer look to confirm if he was injured in the attack or not.
Renaie looked up at the mention of their name, but frowned at what was said after. If the vessel was unstable and likely to deteriorate, how much time did they have? With the attack… The tricorder in their hand also showed debris in the Vaadwaur's system.
Shortrith: ::gravely:: He was.
Hopper: Response
oO So much about the species remains unknown. There isn't much Starfleet knowledge in the Delta Quadrant, if I remember correctly. Oo
Galanis: Sir, I’m aware this may sound drastic, but I don’t think it’s safe to keep them here. If we need the information from this crew member, or passenger, or whoever they are; then should we be considering transporting them back to the Daintree?
Shortrith: I'm inclined to agree. Especially as, I believe, none of us can read the text on the Vaadwaur biobed. If we get back to the Daintree, we can hopefully translate it to Federation Standard, or whatever language we understand, and work with that.
Hopper: Response
Shortrith: How much of a risk is there for transporting?
Hopper/Galanis: Response
Renaie frowned, weighing the considerations in their mind.
Shortrith: We should be able to use our padds record things like the crew dossiers, so we can find out about our patient and treat him affectively.
Hopper/Galanis: Response
Sighing, Renaie turned to the others.
Shortrith: How much time do we have?
Hopper/Galanis: Response
